WHAT’S ON THIS WEEKEND 💜
Saturday 19 & Sunday 20 September
If you’re wondering what on earth to do with the kids this weekend, I’ve had a little look around and there’s actually loads going on in Cardiff and a few lovely things worth travelling a bit further for too.
Save this one for later because I know Saturday morning will come around and half of us will suddenly be thinking… right, what are we doing today? 😂
🃏 Cardiff Bay Card Show – Red Dragon Centre
Saturday & Sunday, 10am–4pm. If you’ve got a Pokémon fan in the house, this could be a winner. There’ll be cards to buy, sell and trade and it’s FREE to go along.
🚀 Skybound at Techniquest
Saturday & Sunday. Their live science show is all about flight, with bubbles, hovercrafts, hot-air balloons and lots of audience involvement. It’s aimed at ages 5+ and there are several shows throughout the day.
🎪 Last chance to see CARNATION at NoFit State
This is the final weekend in Cardiff for their 40th-anniversary show at Sophia Gardens. Saturday has afternoon and evening performances, with the final Cardiff show on Sunday.

🆓 Open Doors at St Margaret’s Church, Roath
Saturday 12:30–5:30pm and Sunday 2–5:30pm. It’s completely free and there are tours, historical displays and a children’s quiz trail. A nice one if you fancy something a little different.
🏉 Cardiff Rugby v Exeter Chiefs
Saturday at 3pm at Cardiff Arms Park. A good shout if you’ve got rugby fans in the family, and junior tickets are nice and affordable too.
🚂 Heath Park Miniature Railway
Sunday, 1pm–5pm — and they’re open rain or shine. The two railways and tramway will be running, plus the café, ice-cream kiosk, BBQ and gift shop will be open. There’s also a model railway inside the clubhouse. This one feels like such a lovely easy Sunday afternoon option.
♻️ Little Rays Bump to Baby & Children’s Shopping Event
Sunday at Llanishen Leisure Centre from 1:30pm. Great if you fancy picking up some preloved baby and children’s clothes, toys, books or equipment. Adults are £1.50 and under-18s are free.
🫧 KIDZSTORY Ibiza Foam Kids Party
Sunday, 2–5pm at Lo Lounge. DJs, foam, bubbles, mascots, giant games and plenty of chaos in the best possible way 😂 Tickets start from £3.
🦇 Cardiff Wildlife Detectives – Bat Evening
Sunday at 6:45pm at Forest Farm Country Park. This one is FREE, but children do need a booked place. You’ll be using bat detectors to see what’s flying around the park, so don’t forget a torch.
👗 Fashion Thrift Society at DEPOT
Sunday, 11am–5pm. Probably more one for the older kids and teens — lots of vintage and preloved fashion, independent sellers, food and DJs. Entry gets cheaper as the day goes on and it’s free from 4pm.
A couple worth travelling for…
🍎 Abergavenny Food Festival is on Saturday and Sunday, with more than 120 producers, demos, entertainment and a Kids’ Cookery School. Under-16s go free, which makes this one a really good family day out.
🏰 15th Century Life at Tretower Court & Castle is also running both days from 11am–4pm. You can meet a living-history household and find out what life was like in the 1400s, including food, everyday life and archery.
There are some really nice free and low-cost choices this weekend too, which we definitely need more of — Cardiff Bay Card Show, St Margaret’s Open Doors, the bat evening and some of the activities at Abergavenny are all worth a look.
