Just over a year on from making my first cautious steps into my super cushioned long distance spikes, I'm ready to make the same cautious steps into these far more aggressive but much more appropriate middle distance spikes.

I've tried a little track walk so far and the difference is massive. I'm looking forward to gradually making the full transition into them.

Laying the foundations by building strength and stability has been key, this is what I teach in my Strong & Stretchy classes alongside flexibility and mobility.

It's a pity that the subway has been sidelined by the surface crossing as it's a more traffic friendly route and offered a showcase for Tullie House. .. the Stone is still sited there..worth a visit.. maybe they'll fix the lift...🤞🙏🤔

Excavations at Carlisle in Cumbria, England—1998 to 2001 and how the site looks in 2026 from roughly the same spot.

This then-and-now comparison shows the site of excavations that took place between 1998 and 2001, so that a new subway could be built under the dual carriageway and thus link Carlisle Castle (out of view on the left) to the city on the right.

This is the historic heart of the city. The Roman fort of Luguvalium (a few versions) once stood here, and archaeological excavations were therefore carried out prior to the construction of the underpass.
