Pain doesn’t always mean damage.

And if you don’t understand that…you’ll keep second-guessing every movement.

Here’s what most people think:

👉 “If it hurts, I’m making it worse”

But that’s not always true.

Pain is a protective response from your brain - not a direct measure of tissue damage.

That’s why:
- You can have pain with no injury
- You can have injury with no pain

And pain can stick around long after tissue has healed.

So if your pain keeps coming back…

It might not be because you’re injured.

It might be because your body doesn’t trust how you’re moving yet.

And that’s where rehab actually needs to go next.

👉 Not just reducing pain
👉 But rebuilding movement and confidence

If you’ve been stuck in that cycle…

Comment PAIN and I’ll help you figure out what’s actually going on.

[CHRONIC BACK PAIN]

After years of back pain and attempts to remedy it, a gait assessment was all that was needed to uncover a few areas to focus on for Ishy.

30 minutes later...no pain ✅️

No magic - just the right approach, based in motor skill development, pain science and coaching.

Looking forward to helping Ishy rebuild, retrain and return stronger 💪

The green arrows are the same size!

🤯

(Also check out the head position in relation to the foot)

The mind plays tricks and things aren't always what they seem!

The good news is that our movement isn’t symmetrical and doesn't need to be.

But...

In injury rehab, noticing the differences can make all the difference!

Does your rehab need to go to the next level?

Watch the big toe 👀

Manipulating the environment is a great way to assess specific movement skills.

Here, we're using a ramp to encourage and assess a specific skill sequence at the foot.

In Dynamic Systems Theory this is an environmental constraint, which is useful for assessment and training.

Clearly the right big toe does not like the floor here, which is super-interesting considering this client has been managing an issue on the outside edge of the right foot for years!

A in-depth movement assessment is the gateway to complete rehab!

Onwards and upwards🏆

I normally throw foam rollers in the Bin Of Temporary Feelings (good emo song title?)...but this move worked well!

Laura is going skiing in the New Year and even though her knee surgery was some years ago, there is always more to do!

The test here is a Single Leg Balance with CMT rotation - a challenging move, so a good relevant skill to assess.

Taking the movement onto 2 feet and adding the foam roller between the knees 1.) created an additional task (dont drop it) and 2) added an environmental constraint. This meant the knees couldn't move in or out.

AKA Isometric co-contration, AKA Skill Development.

The result speaks for itself!

Onwards and downwards ⛷️ ⛷️ ⛷️
