WEEK 2 COMPLETE!

Another enjoyable week at our half term football camp 🥳

Ball mastery, 1 v 1’s and small sided games in close quarters made for lots competitive battles between the group 🔥

Potentially the last camp of the year. Let’s see if we can sneak in a Christmas Camp 👀⚽️

OCTOBER HALF TERM - WEEK 1!

Being indoors for the majority of the week was an interesting and enjoyable experience.

I reckon the children doubled the number of touches they’d usually have when outside. A lack of space means a lot of pressure. Quick feet, changing of direction and a lot of imagination 🔥

Can’t wait for week 2 ⚽️💙

Coaches!!

Lines are fine…

There’s nothing wrong with having players in a line if it means they’re getting plenty of opportunities to play.

The problem is when a child spends more time standing and watching than actually playing. If there are two or three lines, but the players are constantly moving, getting involved and getting plenty of reps, great.

But if they’re standing around for five minutes just to get one go, we need to ask ourselves:

How much are they actually learning?

For me, it’s simple.

More touches. More decisions. More repetition.
More chances to make mistakes and try again.

The more they do, the more they learn.

Lines aren’t the problem. Lack of repetition is. ⚽️

Let them make mistakes. ⚽️

As parents, you all want to help your children. When we see them under pressure, it’s easy to shout, “Kick it away!” because we don’t want them to lose the ball.

But what are they actually learning if that’s always the answer?

Football is about so much more than just getting rid of the ball. It’s about learning to control it, look up, make decisions and have the confidence to try things.

Of course, they’re going to lose the ball. They’re going to make mistakes. That’s part of learning and it’s how they improve. If we encourage them to kick it away every time they get into a difficult situation, how will they ever learn to get themselves out of one?

Sometimes, we have to let them figure things out for themselves. Let them try, let them get it wrong and encourage them to go again. We don't want children who are scared of making mistakes. We want children who are brave enough to try.

So next time your child gets the ball, rather than telling them to kick it away, give them the chance to play. 💙
