๐ŸŸขโšซ๏ธ TEAM NEWS โ€“ GAME WEEK 7 โšซ๏ธ๐ŸŸข

A massive thank you to this weeks match sponsor, Phillips ASC, for their continued support of Chepstow Cricket Club

A fantastic turnout at nets have given the selectors plenty to think about. Here are the teams ๐Ÿ‘‡

1st XI vs Pentyrch
Thereโ€™s only one place to startโ€ฆ

At just 14 years old, Raahi Kumar is handed his 1st XI debut after a sensational start to the season ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

A hugely deserved opportunity for one of the clubโ€™s brightest young talents. Congratulations Raahi โ€” the first of many, we hope! ๐ŸŸขโšซ๏ธ

Chris Archer, James Bishop and Rowan Snell also return to the side as AJโ€™s men look to make home advantage count ๐Ÿ’ช

2nd XI vs Ponthir
Fresh from his century two weeks ago, CJ keeps his place in the side.

Ellis Davies makes his first appearance of the season after finally completing what felt like the worldโ€™s longest rugby campaign ๐Ÿ‰๐Ÿ˜…

Jared Oโ€™Brien also returns for his second appearance of the year as the unbeaten 2s head into a huge top-of-the-table clash ๐Ÿ‘Š

3rd XI vs Vale III
The Field of Dreams is the setting as Brentโ€™s army welcome table-topping Vale.

Plenty of youth in the side once again, while Al Jones makes a welcome return from injury ๐Ÿ™Œ

Sunday XI vs Rogerstone
The Sunday XI make the short trip to Rogerstone this weekend โ€” thanks for stepping in to host, guys ๐Ÿ™Œ

Plenty of bright prospects in the side, alongside the brave five who are doubling up this weekend ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ‘

Mathern Road is the backdrop as AJโ€™s men welcome Pentyrch. Itโ€™s always a tightly fought contest against the boys from North Cardiff and another big test awaits ๐Ÿ‘Š

This week they travel to Ponthir, who sit level on points with us in Division 3. A huge game at the top of the table awaits ๐Ÿ’ช

๐ŸŸขโšซ๏ธ FIXTURES โ€“ GAME WEEK 6 โšซ๏ธ๐ŸŸข

A massive thank you to Phillips ASC for sponsoring this weekendโ€™s matches โ€” absolute legends ๐Ÿ™Œ

Unfortunately, the weather has had other ideas this week, with junior fixtures falling victim to the rain โ˜”๏ธ Letโ€™s hope Saturday brings some sunshine and a full day of cricket โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ

1st XI vs Maesteg
AJโ€™s men make the trip to high-flying Maesteg, looking to build on the encouraging signs shown over the last few weeks ๐Ÿ‘Š

2nd XI vs Creigiau
The unbeaten 2s are back at Mathern Road and will be looking to keep their impressive start to the season going against Creigiau ๐Ÿ’ช

3rd XI vs Dinas Powys III
The 3s face a tough challenge as they look to bounce back against table-toppers Dinas Powys. Can Brentโ€™s boys produce the goods? ๐Ÿ‘€

All support is greatly appreciated wherever the teams are playing this weekend ๐Ÿ™Œ

๐ŸŸขโšซ๏ธ RESULTS โ€“ GAME WEEK 5 โšซ๏ธ๐ŸŸข

A huge thank you to Hardacre Properties for sponsoring Match Week 5. Your support is greatly appreciated ๐Ÿ™Œ

Thursday Night โ€“ Macey Cup T20
A good crowd gathered at Mathern Road as we welcomed Panteg. After losing the toss, Rhys Leach ripped through the top order, reducing the visitors to 12/3 and finishing with a superb 4-fer. Jones and Tregaskes both picked up two wickets as Panteg were restricted to 104 from their 20 overs.

Our reply started disastrously, with the skipper departing for a duck and the score slipping to 30/5. Thankfully Harry Hughes remained at the crease, anchoring the chase with a composed 50. With the game in the balance, Fil Chitnisโ€™ square drive (weโ€™ll call it thatโ€ฆ) raced away for four to seal the win ๐Ÿ‘

1st XI vs Ynysgerwn
Asked to bowl first on a batter-friendly surface, wickets proved hard to come by. Fil Chitnis picked up 2 wickets and Lewys Jones kept things tight, but the hosts posted a formidable 348.

In reply, Bruno Chitnis produced a maiden 1st XI fifty โ€” a brilliant milestone ๐Ÿ‘ Despite several batters making starts, nobody could convert and we fell short, taking valuable bonus points home.

2nd XI vs Penarth II
A top-of-the-table clash at Mathern Road produced fireworks ๐Ÿ’ฅ

Making his first appearance with the bat in the 2s, Carwyn James smashed 163 from just 119 balls, including 28 boundaries - Ceeeeeejaaay. Not to be outdone, Lloyd Bartlett brought up his maiden 2nd XI century, blasting 126 from 78 balls as the pair shared a remarkable 174-run partnership.

With the ball, Raahi Kumar somehow followed last weekโ€™s 7-fer with โ€œjustโ€ 5 wickets this week ๐Ÿ˜ฑ Tregaskes added 3 as Penarth were bowled out for 131 in a dominant victory.

3rd XI vs Croesyceiliog
Back at Francis Field, runs were hard to come by. Luca top scored with 30 while Finn Hillman added 21 as we were bowled out for 151.

The bowlers fought hard to defend it, with Harry Harkins striking early and Raj Chitnis claiming 3 wickets. The game remained in the balance deep into the chase, but the visitors got over the line with four overs remaining.

Womenโ€™s Softball ๐ŸŸขโšซ๏ธ

The ladies were in action twice this week, beginning with a Welsh Plate clash away at Newbridge on Thursday. Despite a battling effort, including 32 from Lindsey and 24 from Molly, the girls fell just 9 runs short in a closely fought contest.

On Sunday, Mathern Road hosted a league round robin tournament. The opening game didnโ€™t go our way, with Malpas coming out on top. Determined to respond, the ladies bounced back in style, securing a thrilling last-ball victory over Ponthir. Molly starred with an excellent 37 runs in a brilliant team performance ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ™Œ

A mixed bag of results this week, but some outstanding individual and team performances across the club ๐Ÿ‘

We go again next week ๐Ÿ’ช

๐ŸŸขโšซ๏ธ RESULTS โ€“ GAME WEEK 4 โšซ๏ธ๐ŸŸข

A massive thank you to this weekโ€™s match sponsor Netherend Farm โ€” your support is hugely appreciated ๐Ÿ™Œ Netherend Farm Butter

A huge weekend for the club with 59 points from a possible 60 on Saturday ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

1st XI
AJ won the toss and elected to bat at Mathern Road. Bailey (70) and Bishop (35) laid the platform before Harry Hughes added a classy 60 to help us post 273 all out.

With the ball, Leach and Dobbie started tightly, with Dobbie picking up 2 early wickets. Then came Lewys Jonesโ€ฆ and as he says, โ€œitโ€™s a Saturdayโ€ โ€” boom ๐Ÿ’ฅ 3 wickets to blow the game open. Snell and Hall chipped in with two apiece as Swansea were bowled out for 173, securing a dominant win and all 20 points ๐Ÿ‘Š

2nd XI
A long trip to Blaina saw the 2s bat first, with Archer making a patient 46, T adding 39 and Tregaskes striking a quickfire 34 down the order to get us to 210.

Blaina started aggressively in reply, but then came the spinnersโ€ฆ led by 14-year-old Raahi Kumar, who ripped through the batting with a sensational 7 wickets ๐Ÿคฏ
An outstanding performance from the junior superstar secured a 77-run win and another 20 points on the road ๐Ÿ™Œ

3rd XI
Another away day for Brentโ€™s army as they travelled to Bridgend. Lucaโ€™s 53 got us going before Brent himself made 67, alongside a first ever Chepstow 50 for Ollie Trepte ๐Ÿ‘ helping us to 228/6.

Bridgend battled hard in reply, but wickets from Luca, Raj, Hillman and a late burst from Scott Wills on his return from travelling, ensured we held them to 201/8 โ€” a strong win and 19 points secured ๐Ÿ’ช

Sunday XI
The Sunday side welcomed touring team Woodlawns CC. Tight bowling from Hooper, Hillman, Hebborn, Blandford and Henratty restricted the visitors to 168/7.

The chase started shakily at 5-2 before Dan Tyler and Sunday specialist Bruno Chitnis steadied things, with Bruno retiring on 50. Snell also retired on 50 before Hillman calmly saw us home with 27* in a 4-wicket win ๐Ÿ‘

JUNIOR CRICKET ๐ŸŸขโšซ๏ธ

A wet start to the week saw all the Under 11s and 13s league games cancelled but there was some action toward the end of the week

The Under 15s travelled to Lisvane in the Welsh Cup on Wednesday and lost comfortably to a very strong unit. Chepstow set a below par target of 89 in their 20 overs and their opponents cruised to victory by 8 wickets

The following evening Monmouth were the visitors and the batters found things a lot easier. 50 for Ewan Guthrie and contributions from Raahi, Jacob and Leo meant a total of 181 was reached

A young Monmouth side struggled against Martha (2 for 5) and Evan (2 for 12)

A third league success for the 15s. On Sunday 24th the Under 13s travelled to Abergavenny for their first round WC tie

The team delivered their best performance of the season winning by 10 wickets

Fielding first, all the bowlers did well. Bowling good lines and lengths, they restricted the opposition to just 87-3 off their 20 overs. A decent fielding effort meant that Ted Jackson took 13 overs to get his 30 runs and the total was always below par with such a fast outfield

George (32*) Sam & Max then took zero risks and Chepstow reached their target in the 14th over

Special mention to Frank & Parag from the 11s for helping out and bowling so well ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

What a weekend for the club ๐ŸŸขโšซ๏ธ
