A client came to a coaching session feeling overwhelmed, exhausted and said they felt close to burnout.

They wanted strategies to cope, and as we talked, we realised the real issue wasn't just workload, it was the weight of all the things
they felt they 'should' be doing.

"I should accept that meeting."
"I should reply straight away."
"I should go, even though I don't want to."
“I should do what everyone expects of me.”

I've always had a thing about the word 'should' because it often carries guilt, comparison and a lack of self-compassion.

These 'should' messages come from everywhere family, colleagues, friends, society and, perhaps with the most power, from ourselves, that pesky inner critic.

When this client came back for their next session, I asked what had changed since our last session.

Their answer was. "Gayle, I've been shedding the shoulds."

They'd started saying no to things that didn't matter, yes to things that did, and making decisions based on what was right for them, rather than what they thought was expected of them.

And, they said the difference in their confidence felt huge.

I've noticed that often underneath a lot of overwhelm sits a pile of 'shoulds', and when we start shedding them, we create more space for boundaries, self-trust, self-compassion and confidence.

What shoulds do you need to shed?

Thank you and goodbye to the Confidence Conversations Podcast

This episode brings the podcast to a close after 4 series. I’d like to say thank you to all of you who listened, subscribed and downloaded. And of course massive thanks goes to all the guests, (too many to tag), who generously gave up their time to talk confidence.

The conversations were amazing and I could’ve carried on talking with each guest. There are 52 Confidence Conversations all still available to listen or watch. The topics ranged from what confidence means to individuals, to how it helps in business. To core confidence, comparison, courage, the inner critic and finally ending on imposter syndrome.

I this short and sweet episode, I’ll leave you with my own answers to the Quick Fire Confidence Questions I asked every guest in series 4.

Thank you & goodbye podcast, you were a massive learning curve & insightful. Most of all it was so much fun to chat to some awesome people about my favourite topic - Confidence

🟣 7 Things | 7 Years | 7 Days 🟣

Over the last 7 days, I've shared 7 things in 7 years up to my business birthday.

Today is that 7th Business Birthday 🎂

It's really difficult to sum up the last 7 years, aside from how quickly it's gone! This has been 7 years of:

🎉 Working with incredible clients who wanted to take action to make a change to build their confidence
🎉 Supporting them when things went well and when they didn't
🎉 Backing myself, even when I didn't feel confident and didn't know where the next client was coming
🎉 Building a business to be proud of, where I'm more Gayle than ever before
🎉 Pulling my BIG PANTS up more times than I can count

So, as I go off to celebrate 7 years of Enrichment Coaching, it’s big THANK YOU….if you've;

🙏🏻 Chosen me as your coach or your DiSC Practitioner
🙏🏻 Referred me for work
🙏🏻 Listened / watched / downloaded the podcast
🙏🏻 Liked / commented on social posts
🙏🏻Checked out my website
🙏🏻Read blogs
🙏🏻Taken time out to meet for coffee & cake

Here's to the next chapter of this crazy adventure.

Love & BIG PANTS

🟣 7 Things | 7 Years | 7 Days 🟣

I'm counting down, (from 7 days out), to my business birthday, sharing 7 different topics each day about things I've learned on this crazy business adventure.

DAY #7 / 7 Business Birthday Eve 🎉

We're nearly there (if you've been following along), today I'm sharing 7 things I'm proud of, ahead of my actual business birthday tomorrow (8th July).

🏆 Having a high retention and returning clients

🏆 Seeing my clients grow in their confidence - whatever that looked like for them

🏆 Sticking with this crazy adventure through the peaks and troughs of business

🏆 Showing up regularly to networking (where most of my business comes from), and where I've met some fabulous people

🏆 Being nominated as a finalist at the local business awards, by a client

🏆 Building my own confidence, you can't talk about it and not do the work yourself

🏆 The brand I've built Enrichment Coaching and of course not forgetting my BIG PANTS!

Wow this was a tough list to narrow down from the 7 years.

If you had to stop and think, what are you most proud of in the last years in regards to your work / career / business?

Go on celebrate them.

7 Things | 7 Years | 7 Days

I’m counting down, (from 7 days out), to my business birthday, sharing 7 different topics each day about things I’ve learned on this crazy business adventure.

DAY #6 / 7

7 Things I’ve learned about coaching

🌟It has to be human, & if it works for the client, then it’s working
🌟Coaching models and frameworks definitely aren’t for everyone
🌟Coaching & it’s impact is often mis-understood
🌟Small changes makes a big difference to clients
🌟Coaching in real life is very different to coach training
🌟The best coaching work happens when people feel they can be 100% themselves
🌟 It’s not always about the questions, it’s about conversation, discussion, challenge, reflection and action

I could go on and on with this list. I LOVE coaching and I LOVE the impact it has, small things, big things, the different clients and their industries.

Check out my BLOG (link in bio) about how coaching works in real life terms and plain English!!

7 Things | 7 Years | 7 Days

I'm counting down, (from 7 days out), to my business birthday, sharing 7 different topics each day about things I've learned on this crazy business adventure.

DAY #5 / 7

7 Things I've STOPPED doing in 7 years, some of these are proper BIG PANTS moment for me.

🛑 Trying to please everyone
🛑 Saying yes when it’s a no
🛑 Comparing myself to people on completely different paths
🛑 Waiting until I feel 100% ready
🛑 Making myself small
🛑 Sitting at my desk during 9-5
🛑 Feeling guilty going out for walks to create space for thinking

Don’t get me wrong, some of these are work in progress. I wanted to add overthinking to the list, but if I overthink that for a minute, that still happens…..🤦🏻‍♀️

These are things that come up with clients too…..all the time

As it turns out, stopping things is just as important as starting!

What do you need to STOP doing?

🟣 7 Things | 7 Years | 7 Days 🟣

I'm counting down, (from 7 days out), to my business birthday, sharing 7 different topics each day about things I've learned on this crazy business adventure.

DAY #4 / 7

7 things I've learned to reframe as a small business owner

✅ From “I hope they like me” to “Let’s see if we’re a good fit”
✅ From perfection to progress
✅ From busy to impactful
✅ From failure to "what did I learn"
✅ From confidence first to action first
✅ From comparison to being authentically Gayle
✅ From “what if it goes wrong?” to “what if it goes right?”

Of course, one reframe I always talk about with coaching clients is from 'Fake it till you Make' it to 'Act As If'.

Yes the intention might be the same, but the language in that reframe is very different.

And acting as if, takes practice. Practice as if you are confident.

🟣 7 Things | 7 Years | 7 Days 🟣

I'm counting down, (from 7 days out), to my business birthday, sharing 7 different topics each day about things I've learned on this crazy business adventure.

DAY #3 / 7

7 things I've learned about DiSC Behavioural Profiling

- There is always an "ahh" moment when someone realises something about themselves or others
- A debrief of the profile is where the value sits, don't just do a profile, work with a trained practitioner to learn more about it
- It has helped me to adapt my communication style more intentionally
- It's powerful
- My natural style hasn't changed in 18 years, but my learned behaviours have
- The power in the profile helps you to not take things personally
- It builds confidence in communication with others

I'm really passionate about DiSC and the impact it can have in raising self-awareness for individuals and teams. The model I use is Everything DiSC by Wiley.

If you want to find out more about how it works, for individuals or teams, head over to my website for more info, or drop me an message.
