Many absences due to holidays but still a good turnout. Rain certainly doesn't stop play at Thursday Bowls!
Two new ladies, Janet and Maria, were thrown in at the deep end and made a pretty good job of becoming competent bowlers, even hitting the jack! Well done ladies, see you next week.

Yes it was a tad warm today, and chairs in front of the fans were at a premium.
Still! A good morning was had by all, some discussions about rules, settled by our esteemed visitors from Humberside.
The heatwave was blamed for the woods being too warm when they didn't perform as required.

Okay, it's going to be warm on Thursday. So what?
If it's cold we moan, if it's wet we moan. Embrace the sunshine and warmth - it won't last long! You'll be needing your cardi in a few weeks. And then we'll be wanting the heating on!

Last week we had visitors from Humberside come to play bowls with us (now honorary members of our group). This week - our furthest travelled visitors so far - came from Rugby to play with their granny and granddad. And a fine job they made of it too!
No tape measures needed on their mat though. Not like mat 3. 🤣

There's short mat bowls at Doncaster Indoor Bowling Club as well as our lovely venue. Just in case you need to expand your game playing. They play on Mondays too.

Well done everyone for coping with all the swopping and changing today. You all passed the test with flying colours.
And without supervision (Sue) the chaps got the mats rolled up. Great job. 😉

Well that was an interesting experiment.
All the men (except Adey who had to play on a ladies team ‘cos there were too many men) played on one mat. All the ladies played on the other two mats.
I wouldn’t say it was deathly quiet – but it wasn’t far off! There was no bantering, badgering, arguing the toss, major discussions as to who was closest to the jack. Just gentle discussion and amusement.
And I didn't hear football mentioned once.
So what does that tell us? Answers on a postcard.

Another warm'ish one tomorrow. Are we bovvered?
No. 'Cos we're indoors, out of the sun, wind, rain (we wish) and we've got fans galore.
If you haven't tried it yet, you're missing out.
(I asked co-pilot to draw a cartoon "indoor bowls wearing sun glasses and shorts". And that's exactly what I got!)
Bit of a different challenge tomorrow. If you know, you know.

Things have got a tad technical in the measuring stakes. Forget the tape measure.
I was more than a little interested seeing as mine was deemed to be furthest away!
There was laughter galore in the middle lane. Adey was causing more ructions, disputing the score, creating much mirth.
