Yet another awesome weekend Head Of The Charles Regatta for MBC

On Saturday our club women raced superbly taking the Club pennant win in Club 8s 🥇

The medal was presented by current world champion and Molesey member Jonna De Vries. The crew were also joined on the podium by Ang and Nina Castagna after their win in Alumni 8s.

On the Sunday our Championship 8 had a great race, including a great tussle with the USA, finishing 8th overall.

Shoutout to Jonna and Nina who both coxed to victory in the men’s and women’s Championship 8s 🏴

Our crews now turn their attention to GB Trials and Fours Head.

Two-time World Champion, world record holder and Molesey member 🌍🏆

Jonna De Vries joined Molesey back in 2016 after moving to the UK, making her one of our longest-standing club members. During her time at the club she raced domestically and internationally, even coxing Head Coach Sam Tuck along the way

After a hiatus from the Dutch national team, Jonna got the call up to cox their men’s 8+ with a set of stellar results following:

🌍World champion 2025
🥇World cup I winner 2026
🏆World champion (and new world record holder!) 2026

Jonna brings the leadership, precision and experience needed to guide one of the world’s top crews and we’re incredibly proud to see one of our own achieving such success on the international stage.

Even though Jonna is now back in the Netherlands, she will always be a familiar face and it’s a privilege to have her as part of the Molesey family.

Olympian, international medallist and Molesey cox

Nina Castagna joined Molesey in 2024-2025 season following an outstanding year with the US national team, culminating in representing her country at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, where she placed fifth. 🇺🇸

Bringing a wealth of international experience to the club, Nina joined our racing season and represented Molesey both domestically and internationally, including:

🇳🇱Heineken Roeivierkamp
🚣WEHoRR
🇺🇸HOCR

Her international record is equally impressive, with extensive experience coxing the US women’s 8+:

🇺🇸 Paris 2024 Olympian, 5th place
🥇 World Cup II winner 2026
🥉 World Championships bronze medallist 2026

Nina brings a huge amount of experience and expertise to every crew she coxes, and we’re proud to have her racing in Molesey colours alongside our squad. 🖤

While her international commitments take her around the world, Nina is never a stranger at Molesey and is often back at the club whenever she returns to the UK.

We’re proud to be part of Nina’s journey and look forward to seeing what comes next. 🚀

From Molesey Boat Club to the world stage 🌍

Since joining Molesey in 2021, Omar Al-Miqdadi has built an impressive résumé, combining success at home with performances on the international stage:

🏆 HRR Wargrave winner
🥇 Heineken Roeivierkamp winner: the first to cox an international club to win the event
🥈 Head of the Charles: 2nd place (Champ W8+)
⭐Winner of the club pennant at WeHoRR
📃Winner of the Page trophy at HoRR

That progress continued in 2026, as Omar took the experience, skills and work ethic developed through our squad to Caversham and the international racing circuit:

🏆 European Champion
🥈 World silver medallist

He also achieved all of this while pursuing a PhD in chemical engineering at Imperial College London 📚

Omar has been a key part of our squad, and his achievements are a source of huge pride for everyone at Molesey. His journey reflects the value of an environment where ambitious athletes can train, compete, learn and continue to develop alongside some of the best in the sport 💪

For coxes looking to develop, compete and reach their potential, Molesey is a place to do it!
