Here is our plan for Week 3, plus Izzy’s weekly roundup✍🏼📑:
“We are smashing through these weeks! From speedy intervals on Tuesday to mountains of mac ‘n’ cheese from Joel on Wednesday and Calton Hill technique on Thursday, we’d packed plenty in before the weekend even started!
In sunny Switzerland, Bish, Finlay, James, Freya, Scarlett, Tommy, Anna and Coach Dan donned the tricolours to waltz around some Swiss hills in super speedy times. Absolutely incredible to see EUOC represented once again on the world stage and to see Emily smash the sprint for 6th and a podium position! More details on our juniors’ achievements at JEC to follow…
Over in the Mournes at the Senior Home Internationals, we had EUOC members fighting it out representing both Scotland and England in a fierce battle. In the individual, Daisy and Joel smashed it out of the park to win W21E and M20E for Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿, whilst Charlie and Hannah both took 3rd for England in M21E and W20E 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿. In the relays, Daisy helped bring the Scottish women to victory, Kate made a rare orienteering appearance to help a silver-placed Scottish team, and Hannah ran a solid 1st leg in the 3rd-placing English team.
In the men’s, Charlie anchored an English first team to victory, Wozzle sharpened his elbows as he barged into Angus during his team’s campaign for 2nd, and Thomas and Angus made up 2/3s of a Scottish team for 3rd. After a tie on both the individual and relay day resulting in some intense rulebook scrutiny, Scotland were declared victorious over England!!
Will the Scottish juniors replicate the senior’s success next weekend? We’ll find out this time next week… Good luck to all our athletes competing in the Junior Home Internationals in Scotland this weekend!” 👏🏼

REMINDER:
Please remember to buy your EUOC memberships by this Friday, or you will no longer be able to attend all of our wonderful events and weekends away!!

In her first year as a W21, Daisy made her senior international debut for Great Britain, racing alongside some of the best orienteers in Europe.

We caught up with Daisy to hear what it was like stepping onto the senior international stage, her favourite moments from EOC, and how EUOC has helped her get there.

Last week, five EUOC athletes competed against Europe’s best at the European Orienteering Championships in Druskininkai, Lithuania, representing Great Britain and the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸
Our athletes tackled tough terrain across four days of racing, producing some brilliant results for their countries.
Immy was off to a strong start in the qualification, finishing in 20th and making it into the A final!! Just missing out in 22nd was Euan who qualified for the B final alongside Daisy, Charlie and Thomas.
In the long race, Immy finished 41st in the A final, and Daisy was 31st in the B final. Euan had a great run to finish 15th in the B final, with Charlie 37th and Thomas 51st.
There were some impressive runs from the men in the middle race, with Charlie 10th, Euan 11th and Thomas 36th in the B final (1 second separating Charlie and Euan 😮). Immy was once again running in the A final, finishing 70th and Daisy was 55th in the B final.
Moving onto the relay, Immy ran second leg for GBR1, with the team finishing 11th nation, and Daisy ran first leg for GBR2, coming back in 26th position. For the men, Euan and Charlie ran first and second leg for GBR 2 with the team finishing in 23rd position.
A huge congratulations to all five athletes for their fantastic performances on the international stage! It was brilliant to see EUOC represented, with some impressive results and valuable experience gained.

Here is our plan for Week 2, plus a quick summary of last week 🗓️✏️:
We started off strong with our first interval
session led by Coach Dan, with an incredible turnout on Killingfields in the delightful sunshine. This was followed by some top-quality pasta on Wednesday from Alex, Adam and Bish, who succeeded in keeping the troops carb-loaded for Fight with the Night. On Thursday we took to the streets of Central Edinburgh, starting FWTN off with a bang with some techy navigation, barriers and sneaky routechoices that Laurence had kindly cooked up for us. Results still pending as we await the return of our events coordinator Charlie…
But the exciting bit was our first weekend away! EUOC travelled north on Friday in search of some beautiful Speyside forests. We spent the evening doing night-o around Alvie, then onto Loch Vaa on Saturday morning for some more training. The afternoon saw the option of some more skog-munching or a hill race. 5 of our members took to the slopes of Meall a’Bhuachaille, with Bish taking home both the silver and the flat crown. And if that wasn’t already enough, we followed up the day’s antics with a bit of Beer-O. Frank got the overall win, with Issy and Adam putting in valiant efforts to podium in a nail-bitingly close race. Before we returned home on Sunday, EUOC thought they’d give the locals a run for their money around Nethy Forest. Special mentions to Tommy and Emma for fastest finishers on Short Green, Bish and Hannah on Light Green, and James and Fran for some speedy times
on Orange.
Also a huge shout-out to our members competing at the European Championships; we were cheering from afar. Incredible racing from Euan, Charlie, Thomas, Daisy and Immy (more details on how they got on to follow). Meanwhile, up north, Dylan shattered 3 hours in the marathon to finish in 2:56, and down south, we saw Scotland reigning supreme yet again in the Junior Inter Regional Championships. Congratulations to Finlay for the dub in M18 and Emily for silver in W18.
Finally, good luck to everyone off to Switzerland to represent GB at the Junior European Cup and those competing at the Senior Home Internationals this weekend!!

Here’s what’s on in the first week of the semester, plus a recap of welcome week written by our captain Izzy 🤩:
What a week! We started with a big day at the Sports Fair for the committee with many new keen faces which was incredible to see!
Moving onto Wednesday, EUOC was out in force to prove we are a multi-discipline club with some trails being explored, followed by a quick transition into potluck and rounders, although we might need some clarification on the rules before going pro…
A few of our members then braved some proper Scottish conditions on Thursday with our Arthur’s Seat hill race. It was nail-bitingly close in the men’s race with a final push securing the win for Bish, whilst newbie Rosie stole the win in the ladies’ race! And if we weren’t already tired, EUOC could be seen hitting the dancefloor that night, adorned with some rather amusing headbands.
Coach Dan then started the first of our beginner-friendly training sessions on Saturday where we explored all of the alleys around the library and got to grips with our trusty compasses. This was followed by yet another social, with a huge game of fishbowl and another night on the dancefloor for those not yet afflicted by tiredness or freshers flu.
Our week was topped off by a classic Pentlands long run to dust off the trail shoes (and maybe the hangover…).
A special shout-out to James, Thomas, Wozzle and Daisy for their top performances at Coasts and Islands this week on the Isle of Coll.
Also keep an eye out for Daisy, Immy, Charlie, Euan and Thomas representing GB and the US at the European Orienteering Championships this coming week!!
