Children's Mental Health Awareness Week 2026 - Are we Missing the Point? - Sam B Yoga 11/02/2026

Children's Mental Health Week's 2026 Theme is 'This is my Place'. It encourages children to think about places where they feel safe and belong. Sounds positive but here is my concern.

Read the full blog to find out why we need to be doing better for our pupils.

This week I have been running a Children’s Mental Health Awareness week on the theme of ‘This Is My Place’ for 2026.

But what if a child doesn’t have a place that feels safe?

And what if they’re in a “safe” place… yet their body doesn’t feel safe at all?

External safety doesn’t always equal internal safety.

We really need to do better for our pupils.

In the schools I work with across Hampshire, we focus on helping children build a safe place inside themselves — through breathwork, body awareness and tools to regulate big emotions.

Because emotional literacy without regulation isn’t enough.

If your school would like a trauma-aware, practical approach to wellbeing, message Sam B Yoga 🧘🏻‍♀️

In this retreat we followed the season of Winter with a water theme, focusing on the bladder and kidneys for elimination and releasing of fear. We also reflected and celebrated ourselves to bring that energy into 2026. Throughout the whole retreat we explored the nature of water to deepen our understanding of the philosophy of Wu Wei.

Why not ease gently into the new year? This is what the energy of Winter asks from us. Reflection, gentle flowing movement, combined with balance and stillness that complements the bladder and kidney meridian lines.

Winter Classes:
Water sequence starting Wednesday 7th January
New Year Retreat - Saturday 10th January
Chair Yoga classes starting Friday 6th March
