15th August Match Reports

1st XI

Kelvedon have a history of finishing games in the dark at Felixstowe and 2026 proved no different. Two things were certain before the game started. The over 30s would win the warm-up game and Kelvedon would win the toss. Both were left late but normality persisted. Batting first on what felt more like a wicket in May than one in August during a hosepipe ban, Kelvedon made slow but steady progress putting on 50 again for the first wicket in the 14th over. This set the tone with Kelvedon slowly building from there eventually accelerating to 237 for 6 in their 45 overs. The backbone and impetus of the innings coming from a Dan Wheeler hundred with the rest of the line-up providing useful contributions.

On a slow pitch that offered little movement tight bowling was going to be the key to victory. However, the first three overs went for 23 leaving Kelvedon to wonder whether they had enough on the board. From here onwards, Kelvedon tightened their line and lengths with the pitch proving difficult for Felixstowe to really get away. The pressure beginning with Kelvedon picking up wickets periodically. Into the last 15 Felixstowe required 100 for victory with six wickets in hand and the game on a knife edge, the threat of penalty runs for a slow over rate being ever present. Felixstowe lost their fifth wicket in the 36th over and with it the runs advantage. From here, Felixstowe always had fewer runs relative to Kelvedon at the same stage and continued to lose regular wickets in pursuit of the total. Requiring 26 to win off the last over proving too much to for the last wicket, Felixstowe finishing 16 runs short. Another excellent team performance from Kelvedon with contributions across the team with the bat and in the field.

2nd XI vs Copdock

George Barton was the star with the ball, claiming 4-27 from nine outstanding overs β€” including a sharp caught-and-bowled β€” to tear through the Copdock middle order. He had excellent support from Thomas Callander, who struck twice up front and finished with 2-25 from seven including a maiden, while Oscar Atkinson (2-57) and Oscar Butcher (1-28) both picked up wickets to help wrap the innings up for 211.

In reply, Matt Potter played beautifully for 34 from 47 balls with five fours, sharing an important stand with Jolyon Leach, whose patient 13 from 51 balls showed real grit. Gregory Cook then injected some momentum with a bright 25 off 22 including four boundaries, before Oscar Butcher capped a fine all-round day with a top-scoring 40 from 44 balls, striking five fours and a six.

Despite some great individual performances, Kelvedon fell 46 runs short.

Match Report 3rd XI
15/8/26

Kelvedon 119 for 2
Boxted 116 all out

Kelvedon win by 8 wickets

Kelvedon threes travelled to Cage Lane Boxted , looking for back to back victories.

Boxted won the toss and chose to bat.

Kelvedon as is now the standard were good in the field on a tough outfield supporting some excellent bowling from all five bowlers used .

Patience was the key , control from the off created the pressure with Boxted going no where , then the wickets started to tumble , and Boxted were bowled out in the 40th over for 116.

Although carrying injuries Max Messenger 6-1-8-3 and Rory Bowden 8.3-4-18-3, led the way supported with a wicket a piece for Peter Yates, Connor Beattie and Seb Saunders, and run out from keeper Ash Griffiths.

Looking well poised at the break the captains only challenge was to work out a batting order based on the fitness of the players on the accumulated injuries whilst fielding. One hamstring, one back, one thigh muscle and one shoulder !!! Although the ice cream van may have helped ease some of the pain.

This did not prove an issue as the runs were knocked off comfortably with no risk cricket in the 25th over for the loss of just 2 wickets.

A partnership of 62 between Ed Peters (20 not out) and Ash Griffiths (50 not out) with Ash reaching his 50 with a four to win the game.

Another good performance all round to back up last weeks victory.

Onto next week at home to Eight Ash Green a tougher challenge for sure, but perhaps not as tough as finding 11 fit players !!

Well played Kelvedon

Cheers - Al Captain

πŸ† U11 Kelly Castle Girls Finals Day πŸ†

Yesterday the U11 hardball girls travelled to Hatfield Peverel CC for the county cup finals day.

Finals Day is played as a round robin league format against all the divisional group winners. We were up against Hornchurch Athletic and Wanstead and Snaresbrook, both of whom had won and looked very strong in their group stages.

The first game of the day was Hornchurch. After losing the toss we were put into bat, final instructions given and Holly and Sienna went in to open. A solid pairing set the tone for the first half of the innings which was backed up by Rhiannon and Jess, then Charlotte and Sienna. Whilst few wickets had fallen we still needed runs on the board to give ourselves something to defend, Mollie and Sophia duly delivered with a stunning partnership of 47 off just 4 overs. This took the total to 115/4 from 16 overs. In the field, the bowling was very tight, good lines and lengths with exceptional fielding all round. Wickets were shared around between Rhiannon, Jess, Mollie, Sophia and Holly along with some excellent run outs restricted Hornchurch to 74/7.

Fortunately (as it was a much hotter day than expected!) this meant we then had the next game off whilst the other teams played each other setting us up for the final game knowing a win would mean we would be crowned county champions.

We lost the toss (again!) against Wanstead and were put into bat (again!). Going with the same pairs as before we started stronger with everyone in the team contributing - Jess in particular catching the eye in the middle order with 18. We were in a much stronger position when the last pair arrived at the crease with the score already an imposing 83 for the loss of only 2 wickets allowing Mollie and Sophia to provide the fireworks once more!

Mollie top scored across the day with the bat getting an incredible 56 runs across her 2 innings. The bowling and fielding again was exceptional, wickets this time for Jess, Sophia and Sienna plus 3 run outs, and some excellent keeping from Ella meant Wanstead managed a score of 81/6.

A fantastic performance from everyone meant the team, led by captains Mollie and Holly, are county champions for the second year running πŸ”₯

πŸ™Œ The girls got to meet Kelly Castle herself too as she came down to kindly offer her support to all the teams on the day - many thanks to Kelly Castle Cricket Academy for organising this πŸ’–

Well done to everyone who played their part across the whole squad in getting us to finals day we are incredibly proud of the excellent cricket that they played across all the games with such commitment and talent. Huge thanks to all parents for their unwavering support too πŸ™πŸ»

Special thanks to Lauren and Essex Cricket in the Community for all the hard work in organising the competition plus to Chloe and Hatfield Peverel CC for excellent hosting yesterday and the other girls teams for such great matches.

A great end to a pretty special season πŸπŸ’š

πŸ’šπŸ U11 GIRLS SOFTBALL SMASH COUNTY RUNNERS-UP!πŸπŸ’š

What a morning! πŸ”₯

After winning the North District round earlier this season, our girls headed to Writtle CC for County Finals Day today and they absolutely did us proud against the winners of the other districts.

πŸ’₯ Orsett & Thurrock β€” brilliant opening game to take the win
πŸ’ͺ Upminster β€” a nail-biter, narrowly beaten by just 15 runs!
πŸ”₯ Frenford β€” convincing win to finish the day in style!

πŸ₯ˆ **ESSEX COUNTY RUNNERS-UP!** πŸ₯ˆ

A huge achievement for this fantastic group of girls and a brilliant reward for all the hard work and progress they’ve made to their individual game and as a team over this season.

They played with teamwork, determination and a whole lot of heartβ€” representing KFCC and the North with enormous pride. Many thanks to all the players from all the teams for games played in great spirits. Huge well done to the Upminster girls for winning all their games and taking home 1st place!

Massive thanks to Essex Cricket in the Community for putting on a fantastic event and to Writtle CC for being brilliant hosts πŸ™πŸ»
