🏉🏉 Joint Head Coach Ricky Newton shares his thoughts ahead of the Season 🏉🏉

​"Firstly, I would like to say a massive thank you to Simon for all his efforts over the last four years. It has been a pleasure working alongside him, and personally, I would never have considered taking on this role without the help, support, and guidance he has provided throughout his time in charge.

​Since joining this club at 18 years old, I immediately fell in love with everything it stands for – from the facilities and the players to, most importantly, the incredible community. The club has given me so much over the years, and I am extremely proud to now have the opportunity to give something back.

​I will continue in my role as Director of Rugby alongside this new position, as I firmly believe the off-field aspects of the club are just as important as what happens on the pitch. Jamie and I are completely committed to ensuring that the club's culture remains our highest priority. We want people to genuinely want to be here, to enjoy their rugby, and to appreciate everything the club has to offer.

Creating an environment where people thrive and enjoy being part of the setup is just as vital as achieving results on a Saturday afternoon. Together, we look forward to building on the strong foundations already in place.

​On the playing side, we won't be looking to reinvent the wheel. The coaches and players have worked extremely hard to buy into the way we want to play, and our success so far is a testament to that commitment. Our aim is to keep making improvements and additions where appropriate as we move forward.

​We know the upcoming season will provide a tough challenge following the promotion of both the 1st and 2nd teams, but we are extremely confident in the group we have and our ability to build on the success we've enjoyed so far.

​We will also be working closely with our exciting Senior Colts programme. Developing young players is vital to long-term success, and we want to create a clear pathway into the senior setup."

As promised in our new Joint Head Coach announcement here are some words from one of our new Head Coaches Jamie Moran

"I’m over the moon to be taking on the role of Co-Head Coach alongside Ricky. When we first started talking about the opportunity, it was impossible to turn down the chance to help lead your hometown club.

I’m always looking to learn, improve and become a better coach, and Fleetwood is a fantastic place to continue that journey.

Having recently spent a day alongside Matt Peet at Wigan Warriors, seeing first-hand how he goes about his coaching, I’m hoping to bring some of those ideas and standards into what we do at Fleetwood.

The foundations are already in place after an excellent 2025–26 season, and our aim is to keep building on the success that Simon Daws and everyone involved worked so hard to achieve.

We’ve got a great group of lads at the club, and it’s exciting to see the conveyor belt of Mini & Junior players starting to come through again. Helping those young players make the step into adult rugby and continue developing is something I’m really looking forward to.

I can’t wait to get started and see what we can achieve together this season."
