Our downstairs room accommodates up to 60 guests, while our upstairs function room can accommodate up to 120, with beautiful views across the cricket ground.

🏔️ BUTTERMERE 10 PEAKS CHALLENGE 🏔️

This Saturday, 9 members of Glossop Cricket Club are heading to Buttermere to take on the 10 Peaks Challenge — and if you'd like to support them, there's still time.

🥾 Around 26km
⛰️ 10 Lakeland peaks
📈 Around 1,850m of climbing
⏱️ A full day on the fells

Taking on the challenge are:

Dave Allen, Jason Allen, Mark Brierley, Mike Boothroyd, Sam Elliott, Ste Kirkham, Steve Wood, Adam Wilson and John Wrigglesworth.

They're doing it to raise money for two causes that mean a lot to us — The Christie Charity and grassroots cricket at Glossop Cricket Club.

The support so far has been fantastic, with over £5,700 already raised. A massive thank you to everyone who has donated, sponsored one of the walkers or shared the fundraiser.

🏆 CONNECTING COMMUNITIES AWARD – GLOSSOP CC

A really proud night for Glossop Cricket Club as we were named winners of the Connecting Communities Award at the Derbyshire Cricket Foundation Ltd awards.

This one means a lot because it recognises what's happened at North Road over the last few years – bringing more people into cricket, but also bringing more people together through the club.

🏏 The largest All Stars programme in Derbyshire
📈 Huge growth in participation across all age groups
👦👧 Junior teams growing from 4 to 10
🏏 Senior teams growing from 2 to 6
👩 New women's and girls' teams and opportunities
🤝 Hosting disability cricket sessions at North Road
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Regularly 400+ people at the club on Friday nights
🙌 Around 35 volunteers helping us deliver those Friday nights
🎓 10 new coaches put through their Foundation Coaching course at GCC during 2026

The growth means we're now planning around 19 junior and senior teams, as well as representative, disability and other community cricket, with pretty much every available bit of capacity at North Road being used.

There was more recognition for Glossop too, with Leanne Drury finishing runner-up in the Championing Women's Cricket Award.

Very well deserved recognition for the work Leanne has put in to establish our women's team, organise festivals and encourage more women and girls to get involved in cricket. It's an area of the club that simply didn't exist a few years ago and is now becoming a big part of what we do.

What makes both awards particularly pleasing is that both nominations came directly from Derbyshire Cricket Foundation themselves. We didn't put ourselves forward, so to have the work going on at Glossop recognised by the DCF means a lot.

None of this happens without people giving their time. Coaches, team managers, parents, scorers, ground staff, committee members, Friday-night volunteers and plenty more.

A proper club effort – and something everyone involved with GCC should be proud of. 💙💛

2nd XI match report; an eventful finish!

The final game of the season brought something a little different to North Road. The Shaw team turned up in celebratory mood sporting a variety of fancy dress and a thirsty, light hearted approach. Slightly rain affected early doors, the game was reduced to 41 overs per side, Glossop won the toss and had a bowl.

Beneath the light hearted approach to the game from Shaw they are still a good cricket team and proved so with Russell & Doherty putting on 43 for the fourth wicket, Russell falling for 60. Glossop’s bowling was on the whole well controlled with Dave Allen again showing his class with the ball in taking 5 important wickets at the top of the order. Shaw’s unorthodox game plan threw Glossop off somewhat in the field leading to some mildly grumpy words to the group at half way from the captain, nevertheless the feeling was 150 was a gettable total.

Glossop’s innings started off very shakily, being reduced to 41/5. However a stand of 40 between Allen and the brilliantly agricultural Morris (15 from 12 balls) steadied things, and a further stand of 69 between Allen, ending on a superb 69 not out, and Coll saw Glossop over the line to sign off in style and just before the monsoon.

With results elsewhere the 2’s have finished the season in 4th place. A brilliant achievement, particularly pleasing as it has seen breakout performances from Glossop’s next generation in Joe Bolton, Joe Doody, and Olly Boothroyd. The future is very bright at North Road.

Final words for the year have to go to Dave Allen. An all round performance with the bat and ball on the final day capped off what has been a sublime season in all departments. Wickets at crucial times and match defining runs throughout the season, particularly the monumental 102no, truly the MVP!

🏆 CHAMPIONS! 3rd XI SEAL THE TITLE AT SOUTH WEST MANCHESTER
South West Manchester CC 4th XI 98 all out (30.4 overs)
Glossop CC 3rd XI 197-7 (40 overs)

Asked to bat first at Ellesmere Road, it looked anything but a coronation. Glossop's top 3 all fell cheaply, Jack Stopford dug in for a battling 15, and at 59-5 the champagne was very much still on ice.
Enter the captain. Wilson produced the innings the day deserved — 87 not out from 79 balls, eight fours and a six. Boothroyd was the perfect partner, his 42 from 31 swinging the momentum in a matter of overs and worth 48 for the sixth wicket. Doody added an ideal supporting 18, and Cox finished 10 not out in an unbroken stand of 47 to carry Glossop to 197-7 — a total that looked unthinkable an hour earlier.
The reply never got going, and that was down to Nathan. 4-22 from six overs, with a maiden. With the hosts settled at 47-1, he struck twice in three runs — Hammad Ahmad Perveen caught by Wilson, Deer snaffled by Bolton — and they never recovered. Abhisheak Amalraj lbw and top-scorer Sifatuzzaman, caught by Boothroyd, left them in ruins at 76-5. A genuinely match-winning spell.
Mark Allen was relentless at the other end — 2-7 from seven overs with two maidens. Cox took the opener, Bolton cleaned up with 2-12, Edgar had the honour of the final wicket, and Marsh bowled a tidy spell and held a good catch as the hosts folded for 98.
Ten wins on the bounce. Top of the table. Champions.

🏏 12 RUNS. FADING LIGHT... PROMOTION.

Glossop CC 1st XI 129-9 (28 overs)
Edenfield CC 1st XI 117-9 (28 overs)
Glossop won by 12 runs.

Some seasons end with a whimper. This one ended in near darkness at Gincroft Lane, with third place in the GMCL Championship secured by a single point.

The equation was simple: equal or better Elton. Everything else was out of our hands — and with a saturated pitch, so was the weather.

Reduced to 28 overs and inserted on a difficult track, Glossop were soon in trouble. Chris Gill fell for 9 before Andrew Rushton struck twice more, leaving us 21-3. Lee Dale again showed his class with 39 from 66, but wickets kept falling and at 97-9 the innings looked done.

Then Adam Hayes happened.

Hayes smashed an unbeaten 50 from 37 balls, including four sixes, adding a vital 32 for the final wicket with Jonathon Booth to drag Glossop to 129-9.

Edenfield started strongly and looked in control, but the game turned when Matt Sonczak took a brilliant boundary catch to remove Fraser Parr off William Hargreaves, before holding a caught-and-bowled to dismiss the dangerous Cameron Howarth.

From there, Hargreaves produced the goods with 6-40 from nine overs, while Sonczak finished with 2-20 from nine, including a maiden. Wilson added a crucial run out before Booth and Fernando helped close things out.

It went right to the final over in fading light, with Fallon unbeaten on 29, but Edenfield finished 117-9 — 12 runs short.

A word too for skipper Gilly, who held his nerve when the game was drifting. Good leadership matters most when the pressure is on.

Third place. One point clear of Elton. Promotion secured.

A day nobody there will forget.
