Retro Kart Championship round 4 at Cumbria Kart Racing Club, Rowrah!!
Arriving on the Thursday evening we got prepared for the day ahead on Friday, due to both the heat and not wanting to put more running hours on the engine than needed, I only did the Friday afternoon testing.
I found my feet incredibly quick and began to make huge gains in my times and both the set up of the kart.
Moving onto the Saturday. As it was our turn to have a Saturday heat, we had limited practice during the day which meant we really needed to crack down on the setup and get it as good as it possibly could be for the first heat.
HEAT 1:
P6 - P4
A semi good start in this heat allowed me to make up to positions off of the start however at the second hairpin I was driven over which hindered my progress.
After recovering back from 9th to 7th I had to make back up for a huge gap that had been created between me and the lead pack.
Once I had found my groove again and set a new LAP RECORD at a 45.458 I then began to pick off the other drivers in front to claim 4th position.
HEAT 2:
P13 - P5
After avoiding a collision at the start I was on the back foot and needed to chase back up to the rest of the field.
After gaining ground on the other drivers I then worked my way through the field and also set the fastest lap of the race at a 45.706.

HEAT 3:
P5 - P4
After making great progress at the start of the race I was in 4th and fighting for 3rd position.
However after a few laps and making even more progress I was driven off the circuit and dropped down to 7th.
After making my way back up the field I then had managed to gain back my previous position of 4th.

The FINAL:
after very consistent with my finishing position in the heat I was starting in 4th position.
After making a good start I was already in 3rd position by the end of the first lap.
After biding my time and watching where the driver in front of me was making mistakes I made my move and inherited 2nd position at the top of the circuit.
For many laps I was hunting down 1st position and gaining serious ground each lap.
However it all came to an unfortunate end when my engine seized with just 3 laps to go.
Another unfortunate end to what could have been an amazing result. But , that’s racing.
Even with finishing 3 laps earlier I still held fastest lap of the race with a 45.699.
I was also nominated for driver of the weekend by Malcolm Fell! A huge honour coming from both the clerk of the course and the owner of the circuit.
A huge thank you to Matt Fells for getting the kart turned around so quickly after Fulbeck and for being a mega mechanic,as always.
