Welcome to LBK Equestrian β the story of Louise Bell Knight and her beautiful part-bred Appaloosa Quarter Horse, a partnership built on patience, curiosity, and a genuine love of trying new things together.
Horses have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I've been in the saddle since I was ten years old, and my love of horses goes back even further than that. When I left school, I went straight into racing, spending time at Mark Johnston's yard in Middleham β at the time the top northern trainer in the country, and fresh off winning the 2,000 Guineas with Mister Baileys. It was a proper grounding in horsemanship, hard work, and what it really takes to get the best out of a horse, and it's stayed with me ever since.
Our Story So Far
These days, together with Jewel, we throw ourselves into pretty much every corner of equestrian life, but if you ask what lights us up most, it's traditional cow work here in the UK with Sudbrooke Cattle Company. There's something about that work β the focus, the partnership, the sheer thrill of it β that brings out the best in both of us.
We don't stop there, though. We love long hacks out with Ride Yorkshire, sharpening up our flatwork through equitation, popping over fences in showjumping, and building trust and understanding through horsemanship sessions with Guy Robertson. Variety keeps us both curious, and every discipline teaches us something a little different about each other.
My confidence battles weren't about being new to this β they came later, and they crept in for all sorts of reasons: being an independent parent, running my own business, and yes, those pesky hormonal changes that so many of us women know all too well. Life has a way of chipping away at your confidence even when your experience is years deep, and it's fair to say I've had my wobbles.
But I try, I dig deep, and I keep showing up. If something feels too big, too fast, or too much, our answer is simple: we go back to basics and try it in hand first. Understanding the task from the ground up β building trust before we ever ask for it under saddle β has been the foundation of everything we've achieved together. It's not the flashiest approach, but it's ours, and it works.
What We're About
LBK Equestrian isn't about perfection. It's about progress, partnership, and proving that it's never too late to chase what you love on horseback β one step, one try, one small win at a time.
Here's to the next chapter, wherever it takes us.
