5 things I think some children's sports providers still get wrong.

Having worked with hundreds of children over the years, I've noticed a few things that can make a huge difference to whether a child falls in love with a sport, or never wants to come back.

1️⃣ Making winning more important than enjoyment.

2️⃣ Forgetting that every child develops at a different pace.

3️⃣ Focusing on mistakes instead of celebrating effort and improvement.

4️⃣ Not communicating enough with parents about how their child is progressing.

5️⃣ Forgetting that confidence often matters more than technique, especially in the early years.

The reality is that most children won't become elite athletes, and that's absolutely fine.

If they leave a session smiling, feeling more confident than when they arrived, having made new friends and looking forward to next week, that's a huge success.

The sporting skills will come with time. A love of sport starts with the experience.

🎉 Exciting news from Aston Fencing Academy! 🤺

I'm absolutely delighted to announce that, from this September, Aston Fencing Academy will be delivering our 10-week Junior Fencing Development Programme at Holmer Green First School, with another local primary school set to be announced very soon!

To have two local schools embrace the programme so early in our journey is something I'm incredibly proud of, and I'd like to thank everyone who has supported us so far.

Alongside our school programmes, bookings are now open for our private after-school classes, held every Thursday from 4:30pm to 5:30pm at Penn & Tylers Green Village Hall.

Our 10-week programme is designed for children aged 5–12 years and provides a fun, structured introduction to fencing. As well as learning the skills of one of the world's oldest Olympic sports, children develop confidence, coordination, focus, discipline and decision-making in a safe and supportive environment.

To celebrate the launch, we're offering an Early Bird price of £120 (normally £150) for bookings made before 20th August.
