Our SDTC Men’s Team are through to the Regional Tier of the LTA Summer League!
This is the first time our Men’s Team have entered the LTA Summer League where they started out in the County Division.
After receiving a walkover against Torquay Tennis Club, they took on Newton Abbot Tennis Club to see who would top the league.
The team consisting of Liam M, Harry H, Callum B (not pictured) & Rud S (not pictured) all played one singles each before teaming up for two doubles rubbers playing in that order.
The points were split after the singles:
Liam gained a 6-3 6-1 victory against the Newton Abbot Number 1
Harry playing at 2 lost out 4-6 3-6
Callum lost an epic battle 6-3 3-6 4-10
Rud produced a convincing display winning 6-0 6-0 at No 4.
SDTC secured the victory by winning both doubles matches:
Liam & Harry 6-1 6-4 win
Callum & Rud 7-6 6-4
SDTC 8-4 NATC
The victory meant SDTC topped the league putting them through to the County Play offs where they took on Penzance Tennis Club who were top of the Cornwall League for a place in the Regional Tier of the competition.
The team this time consisted of Max D, Liam M, Ben W (not pictured) & Mike O, playing in that order.
Once again the fixture was tied after the singles:
Max lost out 1-6 0-6 against a strong No. 1
Liam came through a tough match saving a match point 2-6 6-2 11-9
Ben lost out in another close battle 6-3 1-6 8-10
Mike secured a convincing victory 6-2 6-2
SDTC secured the victory by winning both doubles:
Max & Liam 6-3 7-6 win
Ben & Mike 3-6 6-3 10-5 win

Our men’s team are delighted to be through to the next tier of competition and look forward to the test against teams further afield next summer!
