TC60…. your Third Space

Here’s the story behind our brand new coffee in the Clubhouse.

“Back in 2019, I traveled to New York City to fight at the famous Madison Square Garden. In the build-up to the fight, known as fight week, it’s all about press and making the weight, but also trying to recover from the 10-week camp your body has just endured. My weight was higher than I’d have liked; in fact, I arrived in the US 14 lbs heavier than the agreed title fight weight limit. My brother and I walked for miles every day, searching for the best coffee, trying to burn calories while consuming as little as possible. Coffee was the stimulant helping me fight the fatigue. As many of you know, there are some colorful characters in boxing, and none was more so than our friend Antony, who was taking care of us. Antony knew everyone, so when we asked him where to find the best coffee, he said, “You’ve got to check out Caffe Roma in Little Italy, Lower Manhattan.”

Well, let me say this: the coffee was the best I’ve ever tasted; the place was just unbelievable. I later learned that this was a very famous café, and it had featured in a series which many argue is the greatest TV series to be created: The Sopranos. I’ve chased the taste of that particular coffee ever since. I brought some back to the UK, but as you can imagine, it was gone pretty quickly. I recently met a young man called Ali with a company called Seven Seas, and I told him how I wished I could create that coffee and serve it from the Clubhouse. Ali has worked relentlessly in the background and even reached out to Caffe Roma, who said, “Antony was only in here just the other day.”

I met with Ali this week to sample what he’d created, and it’s fair to say I think he’s hit the nail on the head. I can’t wait to share it all with you and would like to invite you all to the gym on Friday for a coffee morning on the house. Coffee, for me, can be a memory, a feeling, or a place. The coffee and chats shared with my brother on those walks was some of my best ever memories with him.”
