Due to a system error, despite being a Saturday team, Forza Roma will be competing in the LCFA Sunday Boys Cup (U16) this weekend.

FULL TIME | FORZA ROMA 1–3 FORMBY COMMUNITY

A proper game of two halves today.

We started well, played some good football, got the early goal and went into half-time 1-0 up. It was a pretty even first half and we were in a good position.

Second half, credit to Formby because they came out a completely different team. Hungrier, won their battles, caused us problems with the long ball and when their chances came, they took them well.

We couldn't deal with it.

Once we conceded, we stopped playing our football, heads dropped and we never really got going again. Formby took control and deserved the win and the three points.

No excuses from us today either. We were pretty much at full strength and simply didn't do enough second half. We got exactly what we deserved from it — nothing.

A big wake-up call for us.

We've started this season showing what we're capable of, but today showed that doesn't count for anything if we don't compete for the full game.

Fair play to Formby. They went in behind, came out second half and earned their win.

For us, we take the loss, get back on the training pitch Tuesday and make sure there's a big reaction next week.

MOTM: Josh — first league game outfield after playing in goal for us last season and worked himself into the ground. Brilliant effort from him today.

NEW SIGNING.

Forza Roma are delighted to confirm the signing of Thomas Godding.

After a successful trial with the team, Thomas joins us as our new goalkeeper and adds real quality between the sticks.

He's impressed us from day one and we're delighted to have him on board.

Netherley Legion 4–3 Forza Roma

No points today, but a massive positive for us as coaches.

Couldn't be prouder of the boys.

We went up against a very good, strong Legion side today and competed with them from the first whistle to the last.

We took an early lead, went in 2-2 at half-time and the game sat at 3-3 right until the closing stages.

But forget the scoreline for a minute.

The biggest thing for us today was the performance.

We saw lads step up. We saw players fighting for their place. We saw communication, hard work and some really good football.

And when we did the basics we've been working on three touches, move the ball, break the lines we showed exactly what this team can do.

Special mention to our keeper on trial too. No pre-season with us, straight into a tough game and he was outstanding.

Two Players of the Match today.

Caleb absolutely outstanding in midfield. Worked himself into the ground and topped it off with an unbelievable goal from around 30 yards. Fully deserved.

Guilly an absolute rock at centre-back. Blocks, tackles, communication and putting his body on the line time after time. Just so consistent and dependable.

The boys will probably come away feeling like they've lost today.

As coaches, we've come away feeling like we've gained a lot.

Massive step forward.

Proud of every one of them.

We go again next week.

HAPPY 16TH BIRTHDAY, CAPTAIN.

Today is all about our skipper, Joe Clarke, who turns 16.

Joe isn't just somebody who plays for Forza Roma. He's part of the furniture.

He's been there through the wins, the losses, the good seasons, the difficult ones, the freezing Tuesday nights, the early Saturday mornings and everything else that comes with grassroots football.

And he's still here. Still wearing the shirt. Still leading the boys. Still giving everything for his team.

We've watched Joe grow from a little kid who just wanted to play football into the young man who now wears the captain's armband for us.
That's what grassroots is really about.

Football gives you results and trophies, but the best part is getting to watch these kids grow up right in front of you.

Forza Roma 5-4 Stanfield

League football is back and the boys got the reward their hard work deserved.

After a difficult pre-season against some very strong opposition, the lads showed exactly why results don't always tell the full story. The work, fitness, lessons and resilience built over the last few weeks were there for everyone to see today.

Roma raced into a 3-0 half-time lead before extending it to 5-0. Stanfield fought back brilliantly to make it 5-4, but the boys stood strong and got over the line.

The biggest positive wasn't the scoreline. It was the basics. Communication, teamwork, shape, discipline and hard work. The lads stuck to the game plan and played as a team from first whistle to last.

Man of the Match goes to Dahud after a superb hat-trick and tireless performance leading the line. A special mention also to Matei for a fantastic free-kick.

A lot of hard work still ahead, but a winning start to the league campaign and a performance the whole squad can be proud of.
