🌾 Our Eco-resourcing Day will begin with Maymana .futures leading a slow, mindful walk around SDS, an invitation to pause and be present with Autumn as it unfolds.

🌍️ We often talk about climate change in terms of big, distant systems, but reconnecting with the landscape all around us like our streets and green spaces can be a gentle way back into caring for it together as neighbours. This walk is a small, grounded space to do just that.

🍂 Together we’ll take time to simply notice and let that noticing be its own kind of practice. Along the way, Maymana will share some reflections on what we’re seeing and use it as a starting point for bigger themes like decomposition and composting as quiet forms of transformation and what it might mean to rest and slow down as the natural world does.

🙀 After kicking off our new season of Unscary Saturdays with Caribbean Dance this last Saturday, we are excited to announce the October session will be Introduction to Hustle with

🕺Hustle is a partner dance that originated in New York in the early 1970’s and got popularised with disco music. In this session you will learn the structure of the dance, the notion of leading and following, a few basic figures, and more about its history and the community in London.

👞 Bring footwear that is not too grippy. There is no need to bring a partner as we will be switching partners. 👯

❤️‍🩹 After a summer of extreme temperatures and drought, the climate crisis is a topic that can leave us feeling helpless and hopeless. Our eco-resourcing day invites our local neighbours and wider artistic communities to connect, hope and learn with others through sharing knowledge and resources.

🌕 Join us to celebrate the Autumn Moon Festival in a couple of weeks!

🪷 To gather and mark the changing of the season, we will begin with a workshop at 5.30pm.

🌾 Flower, Memory & Gathering will be a flower-arranging workshop led by artist and facilitator Kassy Fang with seasonal and locally gathered flowers, branches, leaves, grasses and seed pods, exploring migration and memories of seasons and time. It will be a space to notice nature through many cultural lenses, and to share what the changing season carries with us on this special occasion of the year. We’ll end with some simple moving together, and a procession down to the courtyard with our temporary flower arrangements.

🔥🥮 After the workshop, as the sun begins to set, we’ll get the fire pit and bar going, share some mooncakes and serve some hot food (available for purchase).

Come alone, or with friends and (chosen) family – everyone is welcome!

🤸 Our Children's Creative Contemporary classes return from Saturday 26 Sep!

Led by specialist teachers Kiren Virdee and Moyra Cecilia Silva Rodriguez, Creative Contemporary Infant and Juniors offer a fun and creative space for little ones and their carers to dance together. Drop by and discover a stimulating environment for creativity, connection and confidence to grow. discover personal forms of expression and movement.

🍁 Infants sessions, for those aged 2-4, are all about collaborative play. Supported by a range of sensory stimuli, adults and children alike will discover personal forms of expression and movement.
🍁 Juniors classes, ages 5 - 11, offer an energetic and joyful introduction to dance and choreography. Participants become young artists in the studio, building key dance skills and techniques.

Full Term tickets include a 10% discount compared to drop-ins and are available until 2 Oct, so you can try the class first! You can also give us a call to find out more before joining.

💎Re-making / Breaking Traditions III 💎
This workshop explores how rituals of cultural tradition can/not be translated into rituals of performance. There will be movement discussion and devising facilitated by Annie Pui Ling Lok. This is a space for artists who are already with their own ideas, questions and existing practices. We are inviting free participation through a short application form in either audio or text. The deadline for the application is this Friday, September 4th, at 9 AM.

🕺 the amazing Freestylers is returning this autumn.

Freestylers’ Sessions unfold in an organic way, responding to everyone’s experience, skills and energy in the moment. These fully inclusive sessions are movement based, with all dance styles celebrated - but spoken word and all other types of performance are also welcome. You decide how much you want to be involved, you might want to watch at first or be centre stage.

The Freestylers team is made up of people with and without disability and together they interrogate the idea of care in the belief that it always goes both ways.

Foundation in Africanistic Movement with Caroline Muraldo.

The aim of this unique class is to bridge the gap of physical understanding between European dance and dances of African heritage. This is done by teaching the basic movement characteristics that allow for the authentic ex*****on of any dance forms of African heritage.
