Not only has the training elevated, so has the view of Gwoon! 🙏🏻

The day passes so quickly after an early morning moment sat out in the Gwoon, remembering my late Sifu.

Today he would have been 73 years old.

My memories of him are when he was in his forties, still very active and powerful, and in his experimental teaching phase. Then as he aged he continued to find unique ways to teach his art of Wing Chun to new generations, and I’m blessed to have been his student.

Even after he stopped teaching me, he continued to guide me, and always had time for a coffee and a catch up! I also had many opportunities to visit his Gwoon and see each successive group of students and observe his new methods of teaching.

I understand him so much more now that I’m teaching too. I know he was always developing and I still hear his voice and feel his spirit sometimes, especially when I’m in the Gwoon trying something new!

I can only hope he’s able to see how well his family and students are doing, and that he is remembered always by all who knew him.

We had our final Wing Chun session of the season over the weekend. We are now closed until May!

Thank you to all students who have put in the time and effort over the past three months! It can be a challenge for many to restart in the New Year, but you held strong.

Your progress has been excellent and I look forward to continuing your Kung Fu journey when we return to the Gwoon.

Happy New Year!!!

I finally managed to get out into the Gwoon for my first ‘light’ session of 2026, and tested out my new Diji Mic which was a lovely gift from my wife!

Pulling shapes, revising forms and simply preparing to start teaching next week when I re-open. I’m taking some of the students into their 3rd and 4th year of training, which made me think about sharing a few plans here for once.

My personal aims for 2026.

Wing Chun Assessments
I will assess each student to certify, advise and plan their next steps according to my '13 Method' approach to teaching. Using notes from my late Sifu as a guide, I will also introduce a new uniform.

Website Development
I’m building a new website to act as my banner to the World, and offer an online product to the public for the first time. I love filming and am aiming to create a more dynamic social media profile on both Facebook & Instagram.

108 Wooden Dummy Form Project
This includes planning, writing and producing an online instructional series on the '108 Wooden Dummy Form' based on the book first promoted by my Kung Fu Uncle, Master Joseph Cheng in the 1970s.

Local Community
I wish to promote the Gwoon to my direct local community, using my ‘Wellbeing, Confidence & Kung Fu Workshop’ template. Starting a kids class during the holidays and a 'women only' self defence and wellness class for local residents.

Flystudio Refurbishment
I want to continue to develop the Gwoon this year. Investing in a refit of the flooring and maintaining the exterior of the building and the surrounding grounds. This little wooden shed is 20 years old this year!

It’s always an honour to be invited to the UK Kung Fu Gathering hosted by Julian Dale Sifu, founder of the Eagle Claw Kung Fu School UK.

It’s a even great honour to be able to perform with my son, James! And this year we threw out some Siu Lim Tau shapes together and shared our Snake and Crane interaction for the first time.

Representing my Fei Mo Gwoon like this is very rare as events like this do not happen often!

A huge thank you to Dale Sifu and all his students for being such gracious hosts, and I hope to see more of these amazing Sifu and practitioners of Chinese Martial Arts in the future 🙏🏻
