Match Report – Cadley Reds vs YMCA Phoenix

The mighty Phoenix finally returned to action after an extended Easter break.

The weather couldn’t have been better for our trip over to Preston to face Cadley Reds — sunshine and plenty of smiling faces all around.

With a few players unavailable this week, we knew it was going to be a tough test and one that would really demand energy from the squad.

The girls never gave up throughout the game and worked incredibly hard both on and off the ball.

Isobel scored our only goal of the match with a fantastic finish over the keeper.

Parents’ Player of the Match went to Marissa. She had a brilliant first half in goal and then ran her socks off up front in the second half, coming very close on several occasions to getting on the scoresheet.

Coaches’ Player of the Match went to Beau, who put in an incredible shift in central midfield — winning the ball back consistently and driving the team forward.
Keep up the hard work, girls!

Match Report – Blackpool Girls vs YMCA Phoenix

You wouldn’t have thought it was the start of the Easter holidays today as the Phoenix were battered by some awful weather.

But it takes a lot more than gale-force winds and sideways rain to stop these awesome girls.

Phoenix adapted to the conditions quickly and played some great football early on. It wasn’t long before they got on the scoresheet. Lille delivered a great corner which looked like it might go straight in, only to be stopped by the wind, but Quinn was there to react first and fire the rebound into the bottom corner.

The girls continued to battle throughout the rest of the first half and well into the second.

It felt like the wind changed direction after the break and the girls really had to battle the elements. The defence was on fire and both keepers had great games.

This was a true show of resilience and girl power from both teams today. You all did yourselves proud.

Parents’ Player of the Match went to Flo, who showed excellent composure on the ball and was absolutely solid in defence in the second half.

Coaches’ Player of the Match went to Sofia, who filled in a defensive role today and truly made it her own. Solid as a rock and nothing got past her.

Match Report – YMCA Phoenix vs Myerscough JFDC

The weather was a little more on our side this weekend. Although the sun didn’t make an appearance, we were all grateful to stay dry.
The game started very evenly, but we knew we would have to cope with some pressure at times. Because of that, it was important for us to stay disciplined with our positioning and make sure we closed the ball down well. That was exactly how the game unfolded.

Phoenix have been working so hard on looking after the ball and moving it up the pitch as a team. That hard work is really starting to pay off, and the girls more than held their own today. They should all be very proud of themselves.

There was also some unbelievable defending on show, along with some excellent goalkeeping.

The moment of the game was a perfect passing move up the pitch, which ended with Lillie calmly slotting the ball into the back of the net. It was a brilliant team goal.

The Parents’ Player of the Match went to Quinn, who was absolutely solid today in both defence and central midfield. Quinn won almost every ball that came her way, showing excellent strength both on and off the ball.

The Coaches’ Player of the Match went to Lillie, who ran her socks off today, playing on the wing and dropping back into defence to help the team. She topped off a great performance with a very well-taken goal.

Well done, Phoenix — keep up the hard work!

Match Report – YMCA Phoenix vs Springfield Blacks

It was horrendous weather conditions at Seafield today as YMCA Phoenix welcomed Springfield Blacks for an eagerly awaited league fixture.

Despite being short on numbers, the depleted Phoenix squad put in a brave and valiant performance against a strong Springfield side.

The first half was very evenly contested, with both teams attacking with intent while also defending resolutely. Phoenix worked tirelessly and created several promising moments, but despite their best efforts they were unable to find the breakthrough before the interval.

The decisive moment came in the second half following an excellent team passing move. The ball found its way to Isla, who took it out of her feet and struck confidently past the Springfield keeper. It was a thoroughly deserved goal and a reward for the tremendous effort shown by the Phoenix throughout the game.

Phoenix continued to push forward and came close on several occasions, but the elusive second goal just wouldn’t come.

The coaches were incredibly proud of the girls’ effort today. With no substitutes and battling through difficult weather conditions, the team never gave up and worked tirelessly right through to the final whistle.

Parents’ Player of the Match went to Flo, who played out of position in the first half and was solid as a rock in defence. In the second half, returning to her usual right wing role, she never stopped running and continually drove the team forward.

Coaches’ Player of the Match went to Isla, who first put in a great shift in goal during the first half before moving up front in the second half. Showing real grit and determination, she won the ball high up the pitch and capped off her performance with a superbly taken goal.

A fantastic effort from the Mighty Phoenix in very tough conditions.

Match Report: YMCA Phoenix vs Elswick

This weekend, YMCA Phoenix welcomed Elswick to Seafield Road for a league fixture, played in perfect conditions for football.

The mighty Phoenix were a little slow out of the blocks and, for much of the first half, made things too easy for Elswick.

At half time, the focus was on winning individual battles and playing as a team. The message was clear: go out, show what this Phoenix side is capable of, and raise the standard. The response was exactly what the coaches were looking for.

Phoenix came out fighting in the second half, battling for every ball and producing some excellent build-up play. Their effort was rewarded when the ball broke to Flossie, who showed great determination to find the back of the net.

The girls never gave up, right to the final whistle, and made life very difficult for Elswick with their work rate and teamwork throughout the second half.

The coaches were incredibly proud of how the girls picked themselves up at half time and delivered the performance everyone knew they were capable of.

Parents’ Player of the Match went to Marissa for some outstanding saves in the second half, with her incredible triple save one of the highlights of the game.

Coaches’ Player of the Match was awarded to Quinn for her relentless determination in midfield, winning the ball back time and again and stepping in to support the defence when needed.

A strong second-half showing and plenty to build on for the Phoenix going forward.

Match Report – YMCA Phoenix vs Blackpool Seasiders

Sunday morning saw the girls head down to Seafield Road to face a strong Blackpool Seasiders side on a typically wet and cold morning in Lytham.

The Phoenix knew they would need to be strong and focused, both on and off the ball, and from the first whistle they delivered exactly that. The team battled superbly throughout and made life very difficult for Blackpool, which was fantastic to see.

The defensive unit was outstanding, with the back line working tirelessly and the midfield dropping in to provide support whenever needed.

When opportunities presented themselves, the Phoenix attacked with pace and looked to get in behind the Blackpool defensive line.

The coaches were extremely impressed with the overall performance and effort from the team. It really highlighted just how far this group has progressed over the course of the season.

At this age, results are secondary; the focus is on development, teamwork, and giving 100% for one another. Week after week, this group of girls continues to show exactly that.

Parents’ Player of the Match: Hallie – A rock at the back, showing great confidence in her tackling and excellent positional awareness throughout the game.

Coaches’ Player of the Match: Matilda – Another strong defensive performance. Despite lacking confidence in herself at times, her development this season and her never-give-up attitude have made the coaches incredibly proud.

Match Report – Springfields Blacks vs YMCA Phoenix

The mighty Phoenix travelled to Preston today to face our good friends at Springfields, a fixture that never fails to deliver an excellent game of football. This one proved to be no different—a true game of two halves for the Phoenix.

The first half saw the girls start a little sluggish, taking some time to find their rhythm. Springfields were sharp from the off and applied consistent pressure. Isobel was called into action several times and produced some brilliant saves to keep Phoenix in it. At the other end, Phoenix created chances of their own, but full credit must go to the Springfields keeper, who was outstanding throughout the opening period. Overall, Springfields had the better of the first half and really took the game to the Phoenix.

After a positive and motivating team talk at half-time, the Phoenix came out for the second half with renewed energy and determination, finally showing what they’re all about. The momentum shifted, and the girls began to fire.

The breakthrough came when Lille struck from outside the box, giving Phoenix their first goal and lifting the entire team. Moments later, after the Springfields goalkeeper produced yet another superb save—this time from a Marissa effort—Marissa refused to be denied. She broke through the defensive line again and calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner.

Late on, Phoenix added a further goal. Excellent work from Isobel on the wing created space before she delivered a pinpoint cross for Sofia to fire home.

It was an excellent game of football from all involved, played in great spirit, and it was lovely for the coaches to catch up too.

Parents’ Player of the Match:
Sofia – Outstanding work rate throughout and capped it off with a well-taken goal.

Coaches’ Player of the Match:
Isobel – Another brilliant performance. Key saves in the first half and immense drive pushing the team forward in the second.
