THIS is what the human body — and mind — is capable of. ❤️

Yesterday morning at 8am, Suzanne and Julie started The Sherwood 100, a 100-mile race.

Today at 2:19pm, they finished.

100 MILES.
Over 30 HOURS.
NON-STOP.
THROUGH THE NIGHT.

Just think about that for a second.

The physical achievement is incredible. But for me, it's the mental strength that makes this so inspiring.

There will have been moments when their bodies hurt.
When exhaustion kicked in.
When every step felt harder than the last.
When their minds told them they'd had enough.

Those dark moments where stopping would have been the easiest option.

But they kept moving.

One step.
One mile.
Then another.

They had decided they were going to complete 100 miles — and they refused to give up on themselves.

And today, they crossed that finish line. ❤️

I'm genuinely SO proud of them both.

You don't need to run 100 miles to prove you're strong.

But watching these two is a reminder that we're often capable of so much more than we think we are.

Sometimes you've got to stop making excuses, make the decision that you want something badly enough, and keep going when it gets hard.

Suzanne & Julie — 100 bloody miles. 🤯

What an achievement.
What an example of determination.
What an inspiration. ❤️👏

🔥 WHY FULL-BODY TRAINING WORKS SO WELL FOR FAT LOSS

When your goal is fat loss, it’s easy to think your workouts need to be all about burning as many calories as possible.

More cardio. More sweating. More exhaustion.

But there’s a better way to look at it.

If you’re losing body fat, you also want to keep as much muscle as possible, get stronger and change your body shape — and that’s where full-body strength training comes in. 💪

Instead of hammering one body part at a time, a full-body workout trains all your major muscle groups in one session. Think squats, deadlifts, rows, presses, lunges and carries.

Why do I use this type of training so much with my PT clients?

🏋️ You train more muscle in each session – big compound movements work several muscle groups together.
🔥 You can create a great training stimulus – strength exercises, supersets, circuits and finishers can all be used to make sessions challenging without spending hours in the gym.
💪 It helps you maintain and build muscle – particularly important when you're eating in a calorie deficit. We don't just want the number on the scales to drop; we want to preserve that valuable muscle.
📅 You can train each muscle more frequently – perfect if you can realistically manage 2–3 sessions a week rather than living in the gym.
⏱️ It's time-efficient – you can achieve a LOT in a well-planned 30, 45 or 60-minute session.

And especially for women in their 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond, strength training isn't just about fat loss or how you look.

It's about building muscle, maintaining bone strength, staying strong, moving well and investing in the body you want to take into later life.

But remember: fat loss still comes down to a calorie deficit.

Strength training helps you keep muscle and get stronger while the nutrition side takes care of the fat loss.

Don't just train to burn calories. Train to become stronger while you lose fat. ❤️

If you want to lose body fat but you're not sure what to do in the gym, that's exactly where I can help.

I'm a Female Personal Trainer & Certified Menopause Coach, and my sessions are supportive, friendly and tailored to your starting point — you absolutely do not need to get fit before coming to see me.

If I was trying to lose fat, these are 8 meals I’d happily eat on repeat 👇

No tiny portions.
No cutting out carbs.
No boring diet food.

Just filling meals with plenty of protein that actually taste good.

1. Pesto Eggs & Avocado on Sourdough

WHY: Eggs are a great source of high-quality protein and choline, while avocado provides healthy fats. The sourdough gives you carbohydrates for energy, making this a balanced breakfast that will keep you fuller for longer and help support your muscle while losing fat.

2. Turkey & Black Bean Bowl

WHY: With around 44g of protein from lean turkey and black beans, this is the sort of meal that actually fills you up. The beans also provide fibre and iron, while the combination of protein, fibre and carbohydrates helps keep your energy levels steadier and makes those afternoon cravings easier to manage.

3. Crispy Potato Breakfast Bowl

WHY: Around 40g of protein first thing can make a huge difference to how satisfied you feel through the morning. Eggs and lean meat provide the protein, while potatoes give you carbohydrates and potassium for energy. Proper food that keeps you going rather than having you hunting for snacks by 10am.

4. Teriyaki Salmon & Broccoli

WHY: Salmon is a brilliant choice, particularly as we get older. It’s rich in omega-3 fats, provides high-quality protein and is one of the few foods that naturally contains vitamin D. Add broccoli for fibre and plenty of useful vitamins and minerals.

5. Garlic Butter Chicken Bites with Roasted Potatoes & Greens

WHY: Around 42g of lean protein to help maintain and build muscle, potatoes for energy and green beans for fibre and nutrients. Nothing complicated or fancy – just a decent, satisfying meal that won’t leave you hungry again an hour later.

6. Honey Sriracha Beef & Sweet Potato Bowl

WHY: Beef provides protein, iron and vitamin B12 – all important nutrients, particularly for women. Sweet potato gives you carbohydrates, fibre and beta-carotene, while Greek yoghurt adds another hit of protein and calcium.

7. Chocolate Cottage Cheese Mousse

WHY: Because losing fat does NOT mean giving up pudding! Cottage cheese is high in protein and a good source of calcium, so you can satisfy that chocolate craving whilst still getting something useful nutritionally. Chocolate fix sorted. Goals still very much intact. 🙌

8. Tiramisu Protein Oats

WHY: Coffee and something sweet without turning breakfast into a sugar bomb. Greek yoghurt and protein powder bump up the protein, while oats provide carbohydrates and fibre to keep you going. It feels like a treat but still fits perfectly well into a fat-loss diet.

And this is the bit I want you to remember…

Fat loss does NOT mean starving yourself.

You don’t need to live on salads.
You don’t need to cut out potatoes, bread or pudding.
And you definitely don’t need to spend your life hungry.

You need a calorie deficit, enough protein to support your muscle, plenty of nutritious foods and meals you actually ENJOY eating.

Because if you enjoy the way you eat, you’re far more likely to stick with it.

And THAT is what gets results. 💪

5 supplements worth knowing about if you’re a woman over 40 👇

First things first — supplements won’t replace good nutrition, strength training, enough protein or sleep.

But there ARE a few that may be worth considering, particularly as we move through our 40s, perimenopause and beyond.

1️⃣ CREATINE

Probably my number one.

Creatine isn’t just for bodybuilders or men wanting bigger muscles.

As we get older, maintaining muscle becomes increasingly important for our strength, independence, bone health and metabolism.

Creatine can support strength, training performance and muscle maintenance — and there’s growing research around potential benefits for brain health and cognition too.

2️⃣ MAGNESIUM

Magnesium is involved in hundreds of processes in the body and can be particularly useful if your dietary intake is low.

Magnesium glycinate is often chosen because it’s generally well tolerated and may also help support relaxation and sleep.

And we all know how much sleep can go out the window during perimenopause! 😴

3️⃣ VITAMIN D

Especially important here in the UK where getting enough from sunlight can be difficult for a large part of the year.

Vitamin D plays an important role in bone health, muscle function and our immune system.

As oestrogen declines and protecting our bones becomes increasingly important, this is one nutrient we shouldn't ignore.

4️⃣ OMEGA-3

If oily fish rarely makes it onto your plate, an omega-3 supplement may be worth considering.

EPA and DHA support cardiovascular health and may also help with inflammation and joint health — all useful things as we get older.

5️⃣ ASHWAGANDHA

This one isn't essential and it definitely isn't for everyone.

Some research suggests ashwagandha may help with stress and anxiety and could potentially improve sleep in some people.

BUT it can interact with medications and isn't suitable for everyone, so this is one I'd recommend discussing with a healthcare professional first.

⚠️ And an important reminder...

You don't automatically need all five just because you've turned 40.

Your individual needs, diet, medications, health conditions and blood results matter.

And supplements are exactly that...

SUPPLEMENTS.

They supplement the basics.

🏋️ Strength train
🥩 Eat enough protein
🚶‍♀️ Keep moving
😴 Prioritise sleep
🥗 Eat a varied, balanced diet
💧 Stay hydrated

Get those foundations right first.

Because there isn't a supplement on the shelf that can replace them. 💪

Over 40 doesn't mean slowing down. It means getting smarter about how we look after our bodies.

Follow Positive Progress for realistic fitness, nutrition and menopause support for women 40+.
