Little Tweaks, Big Progress!

A week full of challenges, learning and some seriously encouraging signs of progress culminated in SRK Round 6 at Herefordshire Raceway for our junior drivers, Will & Jamie.

A really positive day for Will, in his first ever race in a competitive junior field, with minimal seat time and a 20kg weight disadvantage meant the 1-1 earlier in the week was always going to have to do some heavy lifting! Will carried his 1.225s per lap improvement from the 1-1 straight into race conditions, finding the pace to put himself roughly ¾ of the way up the field. A seriously encouraging performance given the circumstances.

Then came the biggest challenge — actual racecraft. For the first time, Will found himself in a position where he had to make overtakes and fight forwards. It wasn’t easy, & a penalty came with the learning process, but what stood out was his determination. He never stopped fighting & never stopped looking for a way through & most importantly, he never looked short on pace.

The penalties are part of the learning curve. Now it’s about turning that aggression & determination into clean, confident and repeatable race moves. Will chalked up a P30 in his first meeting & easily exceeded his target of not last.

A much tougher day for Jamie, with the karts proving difficult to adapt to. They weren’t necessarily slow, but the constant changes in handling made finding consistency a real challenge. When he did hook it up, the pace was seriously quick.

Jamie’s second heat was the turning point. Running 3rd, he was squeezed into the tyre wall on lap one and dropped right to the back. From there, the high benchmark set early in the race quickly became much harder to recover. Despite this, Jamie kept pushing & finished with a clean day, no penalties and a solid B Final result in P18 & P10 in the amateur category. Not the day we wanted, but we take the positives, learn from it and move forward.

Mochowiak Mover!

The technical challenge of Llandow was the gauntlet laid out in front of Oskar for Rd5 of the Club 100 Junior SLW. Last year this circuit was a tricky spot for Oskar, so a revision of last year’s notes was a must. The early testing results were promising with a P10 followed by a P5 in official practice.

Oskar had a great run, qualifying directly into the Pre-A final showing a clear improvement from last year at just 4 tenths down from top in quali group 3 & pole overall. This translated to P17 overall in the A, with just a 1 tenth improvement the difference of another 10 places forward. This realisation offered the perfect motivation for Oskar.

Oskar squeezed his way forward 1 spot on the opening lap of the pre-final where the main priority is simply to survive when jostling in the mid-pack. The second lap offered Oskar some opportunities as he made 2 moves & avoided 2 drivers who’d come together to run in P12. The race settled but the racing was still frenetic as Oskar swapped places with the P2 qualifier mid-race several times; it was P13 at the close with some strong signs ahead of the A final.

The A final & the remit was more of the same. This didn’t go to plan however as Oskar took a knock from behind in the dell which had him sideways, collected by another driver, losing momentum ahead of the back straight & dropping from P13 to P21 on the opening lap. His head didn’t drop despite the frustration offering up some excellent race craft fighting over P20 which Oskar eventually claimed after penalties.

A tinge of disappointment as Oskar continues to build in this highly competitive series but the signs were impressive & the turnaround from last year seismic, for which all involved should take some pride. 2-man Scoop!

The SRK Sprints Series resumed for Rd5 at GYG as a new track to the calendar. This meant expectations were muted with most of the SCR drivers exploring the circuit & karts for the first time. The distance had put off some of the team, leaving SCR A with just 2 drivers attempting to maintain the team’s lead in the standings.

There were penalties galore throughout the grid which seemed to be a circuit specific thing curbing the racing with drivers up and down the field unsure what they were doing wrong. The team were all on the pace with Alexander doing his thing to rip through the A final to finish just off the podium. Zack was awarded penalties that were overturned after the event but hobbled him on the day leaving him with a task in the B final surrounded by an unfamiliarly stacked grid. Forward progress had him P4. The combined points of Zack & Alexander were just enough to maintain the team’s lead.

Rhys was the stand-out performer from the B team. Initially qualifying for the B final however a points revaluation at the last minute dropped him to pole in the C. Rhys sucked up the pressure incredibly well to convert pole into the win & rightly earning his promotion back up to the B. Rhys made up another 2 places in the B, engaged in race long battles.

Aaron & Hugo lined up one in front of the other in P2 & P4 respectively for their final with Andrei further back in P9. All 3 had shown pace throughout the event but had struggled to make moves stick. No such worry for Andrei on this occasion as he cruised forward but picked up a penalty in the process. Aaron held his P2 neatly with Hugo sliding up to shadow him in P3.

Missed Chance!

Glan-Y-Gors was the setting for the first SRK Endurance event of the year and was the testing ground for some new & some yet undecided rules for the endurance events.

Practice that is not qualifying but somehow scores points went well, offering Hugo an opportunity to bed himself into the format & a brand new, high speed, circuit while Zack & Alexander took slightly shorter stints, to remind themselves where the track went. The slightly altered line-up for 2026 were competitive on times, not only with one another but with the field as a whole, with Alexander showing the stand-out pace.

A staggered start where teams serve their ‘balance of performance’ penalties before their race starts offered an interesting dynamic with Zack taking the wheel first. He laid down consistent laps & ground the gaps ahead down whilst making efficient passes to haul SCR up from P6 to P2 in the first stint.

The first handover went smoothly & the game plan for a quick second stop was looking good as Hugo got himself settled into the swing of the race. A mistake on pit entry led to a spin atop a grassy crest with a finishing position sideways in the pit lane. A look at the data showed that it cost the team roughly 40 seconds while the marshals recovered Hugo. He swapped karts & did all he could do which was ‘get on with it’ a lap down to the front runners. Once Hugo sorted his head out, his pace was very good & showed an admirable level of consistency. Alexander took over the final stint with just over a third of the 2-hour race remaining & set about what he does best – driving in circles fast. Alexander sat in the draft of a local team who also happened to be the leaders most of the distance ensuring he benefited from the draft for as long as possible before pulling clear. The magic worked as Alexander rocketed his way from P11 to P4 at the flag.

Post race debriefs showed that P2 was a very likely outcome without the midrace mishap however this was still an impressive performance & hopefully a sign of things to come for the rest of the season. Buckmore Park is next…

Huge Improvements!

At Stalloni Campioni Racing we offer 1:1 tuition sessions designed to help drivers develop, improve and get the most out of their time on track.
Most recently, we headed to Herefordshire Raceway for a day of 1:1 sessions. With unbelievably hot conditions affecting lap times, it would have been easy to focus solely on the numbers however, the key points for improvement remained the same, and some huge progress was made across a number of areas whether it be Jamie’s race craft, Will’s huge jump in speed or Oliver’s refocus on lines.
Beyond this, throughout the sessions, we also worked on lap times, braking, overtaking, racing lines & driving technique. Despite the challenging conditions, the improvements throughout the day were clear to see demonstrating that there is always something to learn and develop, whatever the conditions.
The proof was in the pudding the following week as Will drove faster than he ever had around Hereford & this time in racing conditions & Oliver improved on his SRK result from last time out, also posting a personal best lap time.

Midfield Melee!

Clay Pigeon Raceway offered itself up as the venue for Rd5 of the DRS40’s where Jacob was chasing more great results. The short loop offered fast, close racing with little to choose between laptimes.

It was on lap 6 that Jacob set his fastest lap of qualifying, a 44.35 which would place him P12 for the opening race. This isn’t as far forward as Jacob would have hoped but with the pace so close, the 6 tenth deficit makes a big difference when translated into positions. Just 0.004 would have upped Jacob by 2 places.

Race 1 got underway & the number 54 of Jacob had found a further 2 tenths. Jacob maximised the start, crossing the line 4 places higher at the end of lap 1 however a knock wide led to this progress being undone the following lap. Jacob held on to the pack but couldn’t make much of an impact, losing one more place on lap 6 where he remained to the flag.

Jacob was keen to reverse his fortune from the earlier race however the lap 1 signs showed otherwise. A drop form P13 to P14 was only a prelude as Jacob forced his way forward sliding past a gaggle of drivers on lap 2 to run P11 for the first half. Jacob settled down, attempting to close the gap ahead, inheriting a position thanks to a spinner on lap 6. A P10 was a welcome improvement however despite not making positions at the start Jacob was handed a +6 penalty for a jump start which sadly undid all his great work.

This misfortune placed Jacob in P10 for the B final. The chaos on the opening lap led to a fall of 4 positions but not dispirited, Jacob was immediately on the offensive picking off a position on each of the following 2 laps & 2 places the lap thereafter. The earlier lap times that were posted couldn’t be replicated with all the place swapping amongst the pack. Jacob finished the final where he started in P10.

The progress continues for Jacob as he immerses himself amongst the ferocious mid-pack where bold moves, mistakes & tense battles are aplenty. Clay it by Ear! Pt2

Oliver took the lead on lap 3 but was deemed to do so in an unfair way so despite leading the remaining 12 laps & expertly seeing the race out he was classified P3. Meanwhile, Ethan was struggling to gel with this kart as he lost a place 3 laps in a row around the midpoint. Patient & timely moves allowed Ethan to work his way back up in the second half of the race from P7 to P3, again taking a last lap lunge to round of the podium. He also benefitted from Oliver’s Penalty to be promoted to P2; a real rescue job.

We were on pole once again, this time for the final with Ethan leading the pack away with Oliver alongside to complete the SCR lockout. On lap 3 Oliver went for the move to switch the lead where the pair ran in the inverted order until lap 8. Some early positional turbulence for Albert saw him fluctuate around the mid-teen positions early on from his P15 start. He settled into P16 for the majority of the race. Albert caught & overtook P15 on lap 9 but suffered some recoil as the driver came back past along with a train demoting him to P18. The rest of the race was a relatively successful recovery to reclaim P16. Ethan succumbed to the chasing pack on lap 9 who seemed to be working well together dropping back to P5. He kept calm & continued to lap consistently but was unable to create any further impression. A similar fate was waiting for Oliver not far up the road, the 2 sharks circled on lap 11 where Oliver fought well but ultimately lost out at the end, settling for the final spot on the podium.

The boys had done a tremendous job, showing real grit & pace to qualify first for every race & were unlucky to be caught out right at the end. All 3 drivers left feeling they could have had better days but sometimes that’s how it goes, Oliver still managed to sculpt a trophy at Clay! It's all still to play for in such a close championship. Clay it by Ear! Pt1

Times are always incredibly close at Clay Pigeon & Rd5 of the DRS50’s was no exception. For some reason this round attracted fewer drivers leading to a single grid rather than the usual splits. This guaranteed that Albert, Ethan & Oliver would share the tarmac together.

The team had covered the lines in their briefing but also quali & race tactics. This came to the fore as Oliver set the fastest time of the session on lap 4. This was later matched to create a dead heat for pole, but Oliver took the spot as he’d recorded it first. Ethan put his best in a lap later, just 0.07 off the front, in P4. Albert, who like Oliver, was learning the track for the first time took a little longer to find his rhythm, eventually posting a time just 3 tenths off to take P11 in the 21 strong field.

Oliver retained the lead off the rolling start & settled down into a groove. Ethan & Albert both made a gain of 1 place with a clean start. On lap 3 a lunge came on Oliver which allowed the train to shuffle through, Ethan being one of them now running in P2, with Oliver in P6. Both drivers at the sharp end were setting fast times whilst battling hard & constantly swapping positions. Oliver fought back to P4 only to lose out on the final lap to finish P5. Contrary to this, Ethan had timed his move to perfection, pouncing to take the lead at the death & to win the heat. Albert matched his times but was clearly vulnerable at certain points as he fell back a position each lap early on to run as low as P16 before a last lap resurgence allowed him to cross the line P13. P12 once penalties were considered.

SCR on pole again, this time with Ethan. The relentless train behind forced him wide at T1 allowing 2 drivers though, one of which was Oliver with a mega start from P5. They completed the first lap P2, 3 & P13 as Albert was shuffled to & fro emerging 1 place down. Further distress for Albert when his camera was dislodged & irreparably smashed due to mistake & spin; no footage this time around. He was half a lap behind & made a courageous fight back to make one place up & finish just 12 seconds off the pack… TBC

Laying Down a Marker!

There was barely a rest this year between the spring & autumn CCJKC; the quick turnaround simply offering more racing opportunities for our ever-motivated drivers. With Jacob tied up on DRS duties, there were just 3 SCR representatives at Rd1 looking to ensure there was no trophy drought in the intensely hot weather. The results were as follows:

Ethan was strong from start to finish, setting quick lap times & maximising the opportunities presented to start the A final in P2. Ethan consolidated P2 in the opening lap before setting about hassling the leader. A job he was more than willing to do consistently lapping 0.3 faster but, on this occasion, had little success as the leader put up a commendable defence. P2 is a great start to the season & Ethan is aware this is a marathon, not a sprint. Edie’s pace was very fast all day & the improvements seem to be coming thick & fast. She was unlucky to just miss out on progression up to the B final which would have been a better reflection of the speed Edie is harbouring. There’s still lots of racecraft to come and when it does there will be podiums calling. Edie’s P15 translated to a P2 in the JCS trophy; a great start in her hunt to go one better in that this season. Max was rueing his first heat where he was demoted with a penalty which cost him a decent position for the finals, lining up P2 in the C. Determined to salvage a usable result Max pulled off an excellent move for P1 before checking out. Progression to the B final wasn’t enough & Max put in an incredible performance to slice his way from P7 to P2 in the B earning further progression to the A. The top 4 broke away early in the A final meaning the most Max could realistically achieve was a P5. He ensured this with 3 mega moves to rescue a decent opening result.

All 3 SCR drivers have clearly set out their stall & laid down impressive markers showcasing their ability & their intentions for the Autumn run of CCJKC & we can’t wait to see how the season unfolds.

Focusing the Speed!

Another sunny day at Combe for Rd6 of the Adult Series. This time, regulars Rhys & Andre were supported by team mates Frankie & Archie. The results were as follows:

The pack was tight with the smallest of errors or incidents having huge ramifications in terms of positioning for the finals. Both Archie & Frankie had a run in with the same driver resulting in Archie meeting the wall in his second heat & Frankie losing her lead on the last lap of her 4th heat. Neither instance was considered foul play by the staff however there were differences of opinion within the SCR camp. Both drivers did magnificently to drive forward in their finals & obtain promotion, Frankie very unlucky not to take a double promotion. Andrei didn’t require promotion as he put some recent rounds to rights by qualifying directly to the top final, dropping a position in the heat of battle.

The speed, as usual, was on display from all 4 drivers, Archie lodging the 5th fastest time of the afternoon with Andrei & Rhys less than a tenth behind.
