Drifting the banks and ledges fishing vertically using a sandeel profile lure direct to a spinning rod is a great way to fish for bass, wrasse and pollock🎣

Bouncing the bottom and pitching the rod high you wait for the slack line on the drop as a fish takes the lure.

The trick is to use the lightest lure possible and still contact the bottom - Great method to use to pick up the better fish 🎣

I don’t know what it is about ballan wrasse and getting a good photo that I struggle with..

These lovely looking fish just love to jump out of your hands, spine you and stun themselves after hitting the deck (hence the fingers holding this one) then often it’s a good few minutes hanging over the gunwales reviving them.

For a tough reef fish they have to be handled with a lot more care than you would expect.

This fish of a couple of lb caught the other evening gave a good account of itself on the HTO tempest infinite rod diving back into the kelp several times and had the gekkabijin singing 🎣 great fun

Whether it’s 100 yards from the shore or miles offshore, micro jigging or slow jigging a wartime wreck ⚓️

Super sweltering day with the big rods out 🦈 👍🏻
Plenty of scad and small bass on the birds this morning then it was just tope after tope 😩

So during the week a weather window presented itself over a good spring tide 🌊

A plan was then put together to get the bait and target some Gilthead bream 👍🏻

✅Wind with tide
✅fairly good water clarity
✅All the baits we needed and some!

Things looked good, probably too good in fact 😬
So in typical fishing form the target species wasn’t to be had this time ☹️ - that’s fishing!

Instead it was hard fighting smoothounds and black bream all day long. The first one’s fun -but then they are just a pain in the ass!

I shouldn’t be so fish snobby (I know I’m not alone)
it was better than going to work! 😂👍🏻🎣

This evening I did a thing…. I dug some bait! Rare thing nowadays as I’m generally time poor but glad I made the effort.

Managed to squeeze one last session in before the weather stops play for a while 💨🌧️

One last trip yesterday before the weather takes a turn 👍🏻🎣

Taking advantage of the half term and beautiful conditions atm an evening trip with Scott and his kids was arranged last minute to try and get them amongst some fishy action 🎣😄

The plan was to sit on the anchor for the remaining flood tide and see what was biting before we move at slack and switch to the light jigs on a slow drift.

After some dogfish one of the rods gave a nice rattle which we liked the look of, so we gave the rod to young Theo for him to reel in a lovely Brill 👍🏻🎣 Nice work Theo!

We then moved to some reef and set ourselves up on a nice drift with the kids bouncing some light 5-10g jigs off the bottom.

Amelia knew exactly what to do as from the first drift she was into fish landing a number of bream upto 2lb on the 6lb setup 😄👌🏻🎣
Some nice drag burning action for her as the bream make their strong runs 🔥

Theo too got into some jig caught bream and also enjoyed telling us when there was fish under the boat using the sounder 😄

All in all a great little casual evening trip watching the youngsters get into some great fishing 🎣 Memories made - that’s what it’s all about

Next time il try and convince my girly 6yo to come and that we will see a mermaid 🧜‍♀️😅

Absolute beauty of a day to be at sea today 🌞

Decided to play it safe and use some smelly slimey bait 😷 for a mix up and sit on the anchor.
Was hopeful of a half decent mixed bag but it just wasn’t the case today, a 6lb bass, smoothounds, Huss and the normal pests 🐍

Something for the BBQ none the less! 😋👌🏻🍻
