It was a privilege to present Hazel with her shodan today.
Hazel has completed the theory well before now and just needed 100 points to seal it. Today was that day, 3 years to the day after she set off on her competitive judo journey. I was with Hazel at my dad's club 25 years ago when she got her brown belt. Hazel took a break, did a bit of life things and came back! In 2022, I validated her grade as a Welsh Judo 1st kyu. She has persevered and dug deep to grind out the points she needs.
A black belt is a symbol. A symbol of the dedication, the pain, the grind, the journey someone has taken to reach this significant milestone. I'll pass on some of the words that my dad said to be, "now you make judo your own". Congratulations @⁨Hazel⁩ on your shodan. It's been a pleasure to both be part of your journey and to help you along it.
We're all very proud of you.

🥋❤️ Our Judo Competition Family ❤️🥋

Competition days aren’t just about the wins, medals or results, they’re about us.

Win, lose, throw or get thrown, our competition family makes every day awesome. The nerves, the laughs, the support and the encouragement make it so special. ❤️

And I love that we stay until the very end. Once our own fights are done, we don’t disappear, we stay, cheer and support everyone right until the last fight.

That’s what makes our club special. The medals are great, but the people beside you are what you remember. 🥋❤️

Win together. Lose together. Stay together.

💔 A Sad Update re: our trip to the Veterans World championships💔

Unfortunately, Jodie has suffered a knee injury, which means our road to Sarajevo has come to an unexpected end, while recovery takes place.

We’re both devastated, especially after all the hard work that went into preparing for the World Veterans Championships.

Thankfully, none of the fundraising has been spent. Our hope is to keep the donations towards the 2027 World Veterans Championships, but if you would prefer a refund, please just send me a private message and we’ll arrange it.

Thank you for every donation, every share and every word of encouragement. Your support has meant the world to us. ❤️🥋

We’re heading to the Sarajevo World Veterans Judo Championships 2026, our first ever interna… Hazel Gore needs your support for Help Us Get to Sarajevo 2026!

At yesterday’s Irfon Red Belt Rumble:
🥇 Macsen – Gold

Today, Toby and Thea took to the BJJ mats to test their skills in a different discipline and both came away with 🥇 Gold!

A huge well done to all our competitors for their hard work and brilliant performances. Thank you to all the coaches and parents for your continued support, these achievements wouldn’t be possible without you.

A huge thank you to everyone who took part in our Father’s Day Judo Special! 🥋👨‍👧‍👦

It was fantastic to see so many families on the mat, sharing smiles, learning together, and making some great memories.

We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did! Your enthusiasm, energy, and support helped make the session a real success.

Congratulations to Thea Evans (Jade Evans) and David Brinkworth on being awarded our Judoka of the Month for May! 🏆🥋
A well-deserved recognition for your hard work, dedication, and positive attitude on and off the mat. Keep up the fantastic work!
