🌟 A fantastic experience for one of our Stover juniors

A huge well done to Harrison Grainger, who had an incredible day at Wentworth yesterday, playing in the BMW PGA Pro-Am alongside Luke Donald.

Harrison earned his place by winning the sub-18 handicap section of the Golf Foundation Unleash Your Drive national event — a brilliant achievement in itself.
What an experience, and a fantastic moment for Harrison.

🏆 STOVER SENIORS WIN THE EMERTON-COURT TROPHY

What a finish. What a result. What an achievement.

Stover Seniors have won the Emerton-Court Trophy for the first time since 1979, claiming victory in the 50th anniversary year of the competition.

In a tense final against near neighbours Torquay Golf Club, Stover got off to the perfect start by taking the first two games.

But Torquay came roaring back, winning games four and five to level the match and leave everything resting on the final game still out on the course.

That match, the third game on the start sheet, came down the last hole all square.

Up stepped Neil Blackhurst.

On the long par 4 finishing hole, Neil found the green to around 20 feet and safely two-putted to win the match 1 up — and secure a dramatic 3–2 victory for Stover.

A huge congratulations to John Hayman, who led the Stover team to a truly memorable win, and to every player who contributed to this fantastic achievement.

A big thank you also to all the Stover supporters who took time out on a Monday to travel and support the team. It was very much appreciated and made the occasion even more special.

Congratulations to the whole squad. A brilliant day for Stover Golf Club. 💙⛳

🏆 JOHN REES & BUTLER CUP RESULTS

A big well done to Andrew Bradbury, who claimed the Butler Cup with an excellent gross 82, nett 68.

Playing off 14, Andrew put together a superbly steady round, making 13 pars on his way to a well-deserved board competition victory. That is proper solid golf. 👏

Finishing in second place was our very own Club Manager, Simon Bawden, rolling back the years with a fine gross 74, nett 70. Back-to-back birdies on the 14th and 15th helped Simon mount a strong challenge, but Andrew’s consistency proved enough to take the title.

In the scratch competition, the John Rees Cup was won by Jason Marshall, who got off to a flying start with a bogey-free, three-under-par front nine.

Jason followed it with a solid back nine to finish one under par, holding off the challenge of Chris Greenberry, who posted a very creditable 73 to finish second.

Congratulations to Andrew and Jason, and well played to everyone who competed. ⛳

🏆 EMERTON-COURT TROPHY FINAL — MONDAY 14TH SEPTEMBER

On Monday, our Stover Seniors Team take on Torquay in the final of the Emerton-Court Trophy at Tiverton Golf Club.

After defeating Portmore 6–4 over two legs in the semi-final, John Hayman’s side now have the chance to bring the trophy back to Stover for the first time since 1979.

It promises to be a fantastic final between two South Devon clubs, and any Stover support on the day would be greatly appreciated by the team.

🌱 THANK A GREENKEEPER DAY

Today is a chance to recognise the people who work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep golf courses playable, presentable and enjoyable throughout the year.

At Stover, we are incredibly lucky to have a greenkeeping team who care so much about the course and take real pride in what they do.

Through early mornings, difficult weather, busy competition schedules, drought conditions, maintenance weeks and everything else the year throws at them, their work is constant — often unseen, but always appreciated.

A huge thank you to Jason, Derek, Jason, Mark, Paul, Curtis, Luke and of course Reggie! 👏

The course is such a huge part of what makes Stover special, and the effort, skill and dedication of the team plays a massive role in that.

🏆 STOVER JUNIORS WIN THE JUNIOR SDL TITLE 🏆

A huge congratulations to the Stover Juniors, who have been crowned Junior South Devon League Champions for the sixth year running. 👏

Going into yesterday’s final fixture, Stover were just one and a half points clear at the top, so everything was still to play for.

The Junior SDL fixture days are made up of two elements — matchplay games and a Stableford scoring event — and the Stover juniors delivered across both.

In the matchplay, Callum Cogavin produced a superb 3&2 win, while Freddie Gribble earned a solid half to give Stover a strong start.

Then came an outstanding performance in the Stableford event, where Lucie Tregenna posted the top score of the day with a sensational 49 points, finishing nine points clear of the field. A fantastic round. 👏

There was further Stover strength on show, with Isaac Vann-Sawicki finishing 4th on the day with 39 points, closely followed by Oscar Driscoll just two points and three places back.

The depth of the Stover team was clear to see, with Toby Wotton scoring 33, Max Tregenna 32 and Harrison Grangier 31 to complete an excellent all-round team performance.

That brilliant final-day display was enough to see Stover capture the title once again.

A huge well done to all the juniors who have represented the club throughout the season, including Brook-Tyler Mitchelmore, Cyril Gosling Jr, Tom Howard, Tom Berry, Will Kenyon and Mia Johnstone-Davis.

The juniors are the future of golf, and this success is a credit not only to the players, but also to everyone supporting them.

A special thank you to Ben Cogavin for his work with team selection, Brian Newman for everything he does as Junior Organiser, and Andy Fox, our Club Professional, for his continued work helping the juniors develop their games.

And of course, a huge thank you to the parents, whose support, enthusiasm and encouragement play such an important part in the juniors’ golfing journey.

🏆 STOVER ARE SDL CHAMPIONS 2026 🏆

What a day. What a season. 💙🤍

Going into the final match of the year, Stover held a narrow 2.5 point lead at the top of the South Devon League, with everything still to play for.

The final fixture saw Stover at home to Dainton, and once again the team delivered when it mattered, producing a superb 5.5 – 1.5 win to secure the 2026 SDL title.

A huge congratulations to every single player who has represented Stover this season. Across the year, the squad has shown quality, resilience, togetherness and real character. In a league as competitive as this one, nothing comes easy, and every point earned across the season has played its part.

A massive thank you also to the incredible Stover support. Not just yesterday, but all season. The backing the team has received has been different class, both home and away, and it genuinely means so much to the players. The atmosphere around the matches this year has been something very special. 👏

Thank you to Joe Nicholls and the Dainton team for yesterday’s match, played in excellent spirit, and to all the clubs involved this year — Dainton, Warren, Churston, Teignmouth and Torquay — for another brilliant and fiercely competitive South Devon League season.

Commiserations to Torquay, who pushed the title race all the way and played a huge part in what has been a fantastic league campaign.

A big thank you also to league organisers Peter English and Nick Pearce for all their work in running the competition.

🏆 JUBILEE TROPHY – NETT & GROSS WINNERS

Yesterday saw the Jubilee Trophy played at Stover, with both nett and gross honours up for grabs in some very testing blustery and showery conditions. ⛳

In the nett competition, victory went to Gary Lynch, who posted a superb nett 67 and secured the trophy on countback after an excellent back nine of just one over par. 👏

A special mention must also go to Yiannis Westcott, who finished runner-up in the nett after a brilliant level par gross 72, also for a nett 67. A fantastic round in difficult conditions.

That gross 72 was also enough to give Yiannis second place in the gross competition, but once again it was Archie Christophers who showed all his craft and quality.

Archie carded five birdies and just two bogeys on his way to a fabulous three-under-par 69, taking the gross title with another outstanding performance. 👏

Congratulations to both Jubilee Trophy winners:

🏆 SDL RESULT – TEIGNMOUTH 3 STOVER 4

A huge result for the Stover SDL team today, who travelled to Teignmouth in extremely tough conditions and came away with a hard-fought 4–3 win. ⛳

With strong winds throughout the day and a fog delay at the start, it took a real team effort from everyone involved just to get the match completed — let alone produce a result away from home in the middle of a title challenge.

Credit to Teignmouth, who pushed Stover all the way and played their part in another excellent SDL contest. The match was played in great spirit throughout, and our thanks go to Paul Speed, Teignmouth’s SDL Captain, for his hospitality across both fixtures this season.

For Stover, this was another performance full of character, patience and belief. To go away from home in those conditions and come back with four points is a superb effort from the whole squad.

The result leaves Stover 2.5 points clear at the top of the table with one match to play.

Nothing decided yet. Plenty still to do. But the team have put themselves in a strong position going into the final fixture of the season.

A massive thank you, once again, to the travelling Stover supporters. Despite the delay and the conditions, the support was there right to the very end, and it genuinely means a huge amount to the players. 👏

The season concludes next Saturday with a home fixture against Dainton.

After what feels like the hottest, driest summer ever, tomorrow is set to bring the wettest and windiest conditions we’ve seen in quite a while 🌬️🌧️

So, because we’re all going to need a little reminder on how to survive it, we thought we’d offer a few Stover-style tips for managing the conditions ⛳

From crosswinds and club selection to umbrellas turning inside out, tomorrow may not be one for pretty golf… but it should be entertaining 😅

Good luck to everyone heading out — stay patient, swing easy, and try not to blame the weather for shots that had trouble written all over them anyway.
