⚽ Late Twist Edges Out the 2014s 💙💛
On a bright September morning, Mossley FC travelled to Greenisland’s ground to take on their local rivals.
With the boys playing against many familiar faces, the game was always destined to be a tight, tense affair. As expected, there was nothing between the two teams, with Mossley coming closest to opening the scoring when a shot smashed off the bar.
Shortly afterwards, Greenisland took the lead from a rebound following a good save by the Mossley keeper. The boys immediately struck back, scoring from a corner within a couple of minutes.
Half-time: 1-1
The second half brought more of the same, with both teams evenly matched and desperate to score the next goal.
Unfortunately for Mossley, it was Greenisland who took the lead after a quick break and fine finish. Despite the setback, the boys didn’t give up and deservedly found an equaliser following a scramble from a corner with not long left to play.
The very least the boys deserved was a share of the spoils, but with only a few minutes left, a contentious refereeing decision led to a Greenisland winner. With the Mossley players and spectators expecting a whistle after what looked like a clear foul on the Mossley defender, play continued and Greenisland took advantage to score the winner at the death.
Full-time: Greenisland 3–2 Mossley FC
The Mossley players and coaches will come away wondering how they didn’t get something from a keenly contested game between two evenly matched sides.
Well done, boys. 💙💛
