Boca vs The Throbbers Northampton Exiles League 3 cup final.
We knew Exiles would be up for it and this showed early on, with them starting in the front foot, first to every second ball. But Boca weathered the storm for the first 10.
With 15 on the clock, Lewis picked the ball up from Iain’s quick throw, danced round a couple of exiles and was brought down in the box by the centre half after a late challenge. Probably the only challenge that didn’t see a card produced. Lewis converted calmly, 1-0 Boca.
Exiles responded quickly, iain was throbbed from behind in midfield. No foul given and a great curling effort beat nick from outside the box. 1-1, game on.
They found a second quickly after from a deep free kick, Jenson won the initial header but it fell to their winger who volleyed it home from close range. Second balls again. 2-1 exiles.
They found a third, again, from a set piece… obviously. Nick parried the initial free kick but their centre back was first to the loose ball, pushing Jamie into the post to head home. No foul given despite Boca’s appeals, 3-1.
This being a final, there were some great battles all over the pitch. Following a 50/50 between their midfielder and Archie, there was a scuffle afterwards which saw both players see red despite the ref not really seeing the incident or consulting any of the other officials. No warnings, no yellows, straight reds. Baffling. Both teams now had to adapt to being down to 10.
Boca responded better and we got one back before half time with deco heading in from Barney’s flick on. 3-2, game on.
Half time 3-2.
Second half started much of the same. Exiles continued to buy fouls well. They got a 4th from another set piece, don’t really know what happened but it ended up in the net. Too many silly fouls and too slow to react to second balls again. 4-2 Exiles.
Boca looked to the bench knowing we had to adapt to get anything from the game. Lewis dropped back into midfield, Chim came on up to, munnsy came on at right back and Joe came on left wing. 3 at the back now, gotta go for it.
With Boca going for it, a few words from someone on the Exiles bench towards the ref saw him get a red card. Not sure who it was, not sure the ref knew who it was, but their manager was sent to the changing rooms.
20 to go, deco flicked the ball onto Nathan who danced round 4 players and fired home. Hope, 4-3.
With 10 to go, the Gritten show continued. Joe slipped it into Nathan who danced through again, leaving bodies on the floor behind him and slotted it home to make it 4-4. Pandemonium.
However the Gritten show was short lived. Exiles went up the other end and after nick parried the first effort, Blake on the floor, pinned down unable to clear it, the ball somehow made its way into the net. No foul again. In the commotion, chim saw red for his appeals and deco was somehow sin binned despite walking away and saying nothing. ‘Verbal dissent’ - but the ref couldn’t say what was said other than that. 5-4, Boca down to 8 men.
3 at the back, Lewis in midfield, 3 up front, nick in goal. At this point who knows what was going on, a couple of chances for both teams late on.
Deco came back on with 3 minutes to go after his sin bin for a Boca corner. A scuffle in the box from our corner saw him get headbutted, deco pushed him away. Both players saw yellow this time, not straight reds this time bizzarly. But it was a second yellow for Deco so he was straight back off again after about 20 seconds.
Full time 5-4 to Exiles. Daylight throbbery… you hate to see it.
Credit to Exiles who wanted it more on the day and deserved the win. Enjoy the celebrations lads. That bloody grimace is coming for us tomorrow.
Motm goes to most influential player on the pitch, the Ref. 11 cards I think, with the league watching him he made the game about him which was a shame. Expensive day out for both sides.
Tough result to take but we’ll be back next season with a reserve team too. Great season with our highest ever league finish. UTB

Semi this morning, we also had a game of football against David Green. Could we book another cup final at Daventry? (Probably).
Boca started brightly, El Capitano swung in a corner which Deco kept alive, BARNDOG rose highest. 1-0 Boca. Daventry here we come?
Despite breaking a record for XG it remained 1-0, until it wasn’t.
Munnsy forgot he was Lino, they hit the crossbar, then the most offside player in history finished from 2 yards. 1-1. Munnsy has had his contract terminated following today’s game, thanks for your service Munnsy.
With Lewis playing in clogs instead of boots today after his week long bender, we needed a moment of individuality, up steps Boca’s favourite uncle. Barney’s long throw found Iain on the edge of the box, he controlled it, done 74 kick ups then smashed it into the corner of the net. WE LOVE UNCLE IAIN. 2-1 Boca.
Half Time, beers were cracked.
Within a minute or two from the restart Boca had a third, Nathan brought the ball down in the box and nutmegged the keeper. 3-1 Boca.
Daventry on speed dial.
David Green kicked off, gave the ball away, Nathan scored again. 4-1 Boca. Boca’s sideline threw away their beers as the champagne came out.
With Boca in dreamland the shouts of ‘shooooooot’ came out whenever a Boca player touched the ball, gaffer Ant was not happy.
With Ant in a bad mood despite being 4-1 up, a David Green goal would send him on a madness. ERUPTION. The volcano erupted, it really really erupted, IT REALLY F****** ERUPTED. 4-2. Can’t remember what happened as had one too many glasses of champagne on the side.
With Boca cruising there was still time for some of the lads to get themselves into contention for miss of the season. Chim hit the post (windy apparently), Lewis had one saved, then Gary forgot he could use his feet and didn’t connect from a yard out.
Full time 4-2 Boca. Thanks for coming. David v Goliath, and we had BARNEY THE BIG RIG.

Today we took the trip over to Dally Park to face Kings Heath in the final group stage game of the cup. With us already qualified it was a great opportunity to rest and rotate the squad.
Archie the kangaroo, Deco the Viking, Nick in the Sticks and Barny the Dinosaur all chose to watch this week and rest knocks. Blake and Alex didn’t fancy it, Aaron turned up late. So we had a make shift back 4 of our linesman munnsy playing right back, our winger Joe filling in at cb with jordan and Jenson the only player starting on his unfavoured side at left back.
This showed immediately with kings heath taking the lead after 1 minute, from a corner… obviously. Kings Heath continued to take the game to us and were clearly up for it knowing a win would see them qualify for the knockouts.
We went in at half time 1-0 down.
Aaron decided to turn up so he came on at cb and we moved Joe back out to the right wing.
Boca came out with a point to prove and after one minute, whilst their striker was having some words with our touchline reminding us that they were winning… Lewis whipped the free kick in and Chim fired in on the turn. 1-1 game on.
A second followed quickly with Chim playing a great ball in behind to Joe again who was in 1 vs 1 and made no mistake. 2-1 - Joe getting his first Boca goal.
With 20 to go, Kings Heath started to through everything at is desperate for a goal. Jenson went through the back of their midfielder, probably in the box but the ref gave it outside. But with 10 minutes they did get a penalty for a tackle by munnsy, less of a pen than their first shout but probably can’t complain. Slotted 2-2. The game poised for a big finale.
Kings Heath had a few more shots late on, mostly from range with Boca playing deep and trying to see the game out.
Full time 2-2.
MOTM Jenson Chant
Credit to Kings Heath they gave everything and left everything out there, best of luck to them for next season.
Glenvale winning the battle of the Glamis sees them qualify in second place. They’ll play exiles in what promises to be wheely good game.
Our attention however turns to the semi final next week against David Green at Lings… come on down and get behind the lads
LETS GO BOCAAA
