An enjoyable spring period across the complex with some beautiful carp cropping up on all waters. Each lake producing 40lb+ specimens, as well as a host of new 30lb+ fish. Most exciting being some of the younger Dinton strain fish that are shooting up amongst the ranks now ☺️

Thanks to those that shared a few photos, have helped others with the camera and generally celebrated in these captures. It’s a great buzz around the lakes this year 💪🏻🌱

We look forward to seeing you back after the spawning break is over. The opening day will be Monday 29th June.

Thanks all,
Taverham Mill

🚨 🅿️ The new anglers car park for Taverham Mill Lake will open from Thursday afternoon. Please use this car park instead of the visitor centre / cafe parking.

An alarm will be fitted to the pedestrian gate into the fishery and all gates leading into the fishery will be set to the same code you used to access the reserve (green gate) from the old car park.

Please park sensibly and ensure all gates are securely fastened and locked behind you. 🔒

Thanks all,
Taverham Mill.

A little praise for one of our angling volunteers…

Steve has been doing some amazing work around the lakes over the years. Growing marginal plants from seed, helping to increase biodiversity, improve water quality and ultimately build a more robust ecosystem for our fisheries to thrive.

Hats off mate! A big thanks from all of us at Taverham Mill Fishery.

Recently, we had the pleasure of netting and releasing a select few of the Costessey Pits home grown carp. These were released back out into the lakes.

Scott and Dan have worked hard to grow these fish from summer 2023. Originally, collecting fry from the lakes and nurturing them up to an impressive 13lb in two and a half years. It was an absolute pleasure to see some unique fish grown in our own lakes. Hopefully, this will prepare them well for life in the gravel pits, give them better longevity ahead of the normal clay lined, aerated and heavy pellet reared pond fish of the modern day. It will also likely equip these individual fish well for a future in this tough environment.

The colours were stunning, it was clear to see that they were a mix of some of our stocked fish with features of the Dinton carp and Dunstable commons we have in the Ski Lake.

Thanks again chaps, great work!

Our Ski Lake grow ons are nearly ready to make their final journey into the Costessey Pits. The fish look stunning in the crystal clear waters of the lake right now. 😊

Incredibly, these fish were spawned in the lake and have since grown from egg, to fry and finally to fully fledged carp. Just the way we love to see it done!

Hopefully, they will offer more longevity. Having been reared in their home environment, rather than a clay lined stock pond without a parasite or any bacteria to contend with. They will already be well adapted to life in these old gravel pits.

Showing characteristics of the overall Ski stock, these fish will likely be a mish mash of the strains stocked into the ski over the years.

None of this would be possible without the hard work and dedication of our volunteers and bailiffs; Scott and Dan who have single handedly reared these fish from egg to carp.

A big thanks from all of us at Taverham Mill. 👏🏻🐋
