Hear the bellowing of the deer and perhaps see two stags fighting (the rut) on this lovely morning walk.

We will start from Hartsop, towards Angle Tarn, and follow our guide to the good viewing spots.

DAY 2: Full day on the fells, at a very moderate pace, stopping and learning as we go.

Nic had an amazing run out yesterday with friends, checking on the deer and where they are... glorious sun, mezmerising colours, binoculars to the ready!

🦌The deer were in full voice, although rather sporadically, as they begin this wonderful autumn ritual. Dawn and dusk are the best time to listen, watch and absord the rutting energy; treading with care and choosing the best spots, hiding our silhouettes from their eyes...

Move from ‘How do I find the words’, to feeling the satisfaction of engaging in a creative process as emotions become words on the paper in front of you. Inspired by what is under your feet, what you can hear, see & feel as you move around the fells, with Julie Carter, Mindfell.

Our writer in residence for our 3-day break is Julie Carter, author, poet, fell-runner and climber. Julie is a 2025 Lakeland Book Of The Year Award Winner for her book The Dreamtime Fellrunner. She's warm, creative and wonderfully encouraging and this is a really special opportunity.

Julie is joining Hiking Highs to help guide us in the wonderful ‘art’ of writing as we walk and explore throughout the days.
