Pickering Town Ladies vs Northallerton Town Football Club Ladies
Pickering came into the game fired up and started quickly, winning a penalty in the first few minutes, albeit for a dubious handball decision. The football gods saw right with the resulting penalty pick bouncing away off the crossbar.
Northallerton seized the initiative and moved into a 0-2 lead, with the away team generally being quicker and stronger on and off the ball.
Pickering steadied themselves with some strong words at the drinks break and grew stronger as the half progressed, creating some decent chances with some good forward play. Evie battled hard on the right to play the ball down the line to Leila, who crossed for Millie to finish from short range and make it 1-2.
Northallerton responded and made it 1-3 just before half time, when a loose ball at a corner dropped kindly and was slotted home with a tidy lobbed finish.
The second half followed a similar pattern with both teams creating chances, and Northallerton generally being more decisive with theirs.
A converted penalty after 55 mins made it 1-4 and Pickering heads dropped a bit. Northallerton scored a couple more towards the end of the game, with the final result 1-6.
A disappointing result but Pickering still have plenty to be optimistic about as the team continues to settle in and adjust to higher level of the Premier league. New additions Eden, Evie, Shannon and ‘New’ Belle all played their first competitive games and look to be great additions to the squad.
We now bid au revoir to the ‘Original’ Belle who is off to Uni. Hopefully she will be making some guest appearances throughout the season.
