Comets U12’s
⭐️🔴⚫️⭐️
⭐️ We were expecting a difficult game for the Comets today, and it proved to be the case, as we were simply out worked and out-muscled, particularly in the first half.
⭐️ We got off to a flying start, with Alfie’s powerful long range effort finding the back of the net, despite the best efforts of the keeper.
⭐️ But then we switched off, the concentration and energy dropped, and before the 10 minute mark we found ourselves behind.
⭐️ The desire and determination was missing, we were too soft in the tackle, and we were second to everything.
⭐️ Although we were still creating chances, and were unlucky not to get at least another goal, as a defensive unit we were far too timid and we got punished for it on another two occasions before the break.
⭐️It could have been more too, if not for Charlie brilliantly saving a penalty.
⭐️ At half-time, we were pretty blunt with the boys. We were still in the game, but only if we worked hard for each other and put the effort in. The opposition were a big, physical team, and we had to match them and win our individual battles, and so far, we hadn’t done that.
⭐️ The second half saw some improvement. There was a bit more intensity, and we were starting to impose ourselves on the game. Alfie pulled one back with a great header from a corner, and the opposition were starting to panic. More chances came and went, and it felt like if we could quickly get another then we could go on and win it.
⭐️ The frailties that were exposed in the first half were still there though, and we just couldn’t keep hold of the ball long enough to truly dominate the game.
⭐️ We did bring it back to one goal in it, after Leon smashed it home from close range from a goal mouth scramble, and although the opposition were starting to tire, we ran out of time, and it was the poor first half that ultimately cost us the game.
⭐️ We have some tough games coming up still, and if we want to remain competitive we have to find that passion and desire to be physically strong, win the ball and track back to help out the defenders.
⭐️ Having said that, we won the second half and kept a clean sheet, which is a positive, and there were a couple of strong performances.
⭐️ Alfie grabbed two goals, and Charlie saved a penalty, but we felt Seb was quality today. His decision-making was impeccable, his positioning and timing was on point, and was one of the players who showed that hunger to get stuck in when it mattered. Well done Seb, keep it up!!! ⚽️☄️⚽️☄️⚽️
