Did you know there’s a special lion connection at the heart of the Green Park Reading Half Marathon?

The iconic Maiwand Lion statue in Forbury Gardens inspires our event’s official logo, our regular finisher medal designs and even some of the lion-themed costume runners you might spot on race day! We also run past the statue on the route 🦁🏃

The lion is a symbol of strength, courage and determination; qualities every runner needs when taking on 13.1 miles.

So today, we're celebrating the King of the Jungle and the unique piece of Reading heritage that makes our race roar! 💜
