It might only be October, but Santa’s workshop is already getting busy… and he’s asked Paddox Cycles to lend a hand! 🎅🔧

We’re super excited to announce that our FIRST ORDER OF SQUISH BIKES IS ON ITS WAY! 🚀🥳

🚲 LITTLE BIKE. BIG ADVENTURES! 💚💜

How cool is the Merida MATTS J.20?! 😍

🤩 It’s not too often something comes through the workshop that gets us this excited…

We’ve been looking forward to the arrival of this one for a while — the brand-new Alugear_components NOVA34 cassette. 🔥

An 11–34T, 12-speed road cassette, designed, machined and inspected in-house in Poland 🇵🇱 — and there’s some pretty impressive engineering hiding behind that intricate machining.

The heart of the NOVA34 is 11 sprockets machined from a single block of Cr-Mo steel, hardened to 52 HRC. The tooth profiles, shifting ramps and all those weight-saving pockets are produced using multi-axis machining, while the separate 34T sprocket is CNC-machined from 7075-T6 aluminium.

And the result?

⚖️ Just 189g INCLUDING the lockring!

That makes it over 60g lighter than an equivalent 11–34 Dura-Ace cassette — a pretty substantial saving from one component.

The gearing is 11-12-13-14-15-17-19-21-24-27-30-34T, it’s compatible with Shimano 12-speed road drivetrains and can be fitted to both Shimano L1 and L2 freehub bodies. 👌

So whether you’re running the newer Dura-Ace/Ultegra L2-style freehub or the more traditional L1/HG-style setup, the NOVA34 has you covered.

Then there’s the finishing touch… 👌

The aluminium 34T sprocket, lockring and inner spacer can be anodised in a choice of 10 colours, so there’s plenty of opportunity to add a little individuality to the drivetrain.

Engineering like this is exactly why we love what we do. 😍

Ever wondered why a brake can still rub, wear pads unevenly or just never feel quite right, even after it’s been adjusted?

The problem isn’t always the brake itself. 👀

These are the disc brake caliper mounting faces — and as you can see, corrosion, paint and poorly finished surfaces can leave them far from flat.

If the mounting faces aren’t true, the caliper may not sit perfectly square to the rotor. That can contribute to:

⚙️ Uneven brake pad wear
⚙️ Persistent disc rubbing
⚙️ Difficult caliper alignment
⚙️ Reduced braking performance and feel

It’s something we check when setting up brakes and as part of our servicing.

When they need attention, out comes the Park Tool DT-5.2 Disc Brake Mount Facing Set. 🛠️ This allows us to accurately machine the mounting faces, removing corrosion, excess paint and high spots to give the caliper a clean, flat and correctly aligned surface to mount against.

It’s one of those jobs you might never see once the bike is back together — but it can make a big difference to how the brakes perform.

Quality, expertise, service and passion are prevailing over price wars, figures suggest, as the cycling industry returns to growth in the post-Wiggle world.

“Data from the Bicycle Association has shown month-on-month growth throughout the year, and August was one of the highest grossing months,” Mike Rice from Balfe's told us. “I think the cycle industry is returning to a growth mode and it’s in a healthier position than it has been for years – in the post-COVID era.”

Justin Hoy, MD of Pronto Bikes who have one store in Frome, Somerset, and are about to open another in the New Forest town of Ringwood, says the company is successful and growing because it's been built around a community. “Our business is not just about offering products that people want to buy, but offering them the ability to meet other people and go riding together. People don't join the cycle industry to get rich, because it's not a massively lucrative thing for anyone. They join it because they like riding bikes. And we love riding bikes.

🚲💨 CYCLOCROSS IS HERE!!! 🌧️💥

I’m seriously excited to hear the stories of our local legends who keep racing right through the winter, getting muddy, cold and absolutely sending it around cyclocross courses across the region.

As a local bike shop, I felt we should embrace the sport and do our bit to support the riders who make the local CX scene what it is. I’ve been having plenty of conversations and looking at what we can do to help.

So I’m really happy to announce that Paddox Cycles is now stocking Challenge Tires Cyclocross tyres! 🛞

Hand-built in Italy and trusted by some of the biggest names in cyclocross, Challenge tyres have become something of a benchmark when it comes to CX rubber.

🔥 Now THIS is a TT bike! 🔥

I recently had the absolute pleasure of helping build this incredible Scott Plasma for Max Belcher, who’s part of the Kalas x Drag2Zero Team.

This thing is an absolute weapon! 💨 From the aero setup to that rear disc and seriously aggressive position, it’s certainly a bit of an eye-catcher too. 😍

There’s something pretty special about having a bike like this through the Paddox workshop, and it was a real privilege to play a part in getting it race-ready.

Massive thank you to Max for trusting us with the build. 🙌

We’re looking forward to seeing what you and the Plasma can do next season — hopefully some seriously fast times incoming! 🚀⏱️

📣CUSTOMER NOTICE📣

The shop will be closed on Thursday 17th and Friday 18th for a family funeral.

It will be back open on Saturday 19th from 09:00-16:00 but with limited workshop capacity.
