There are two different classes available depending on what you and your body need and would like.
VINYASA FLOW YOGA is a class where we move fluidly between poses, linking breath and movement to build strength and flexibility. Each week the class will have a different focus and this week we will continue to explore some of the foundational poses and movements commonly used within a yoga class. Our focus this week will be on some lower limb strengthening poses, as well as developing our balance skills - combining strength and stability.
GENTLE & ACCESSIBLE YOGA is a fantastic class if you want to practice yoga but find some movements or positions challenging, uncomfortable or inaccessible to you. We explore the same flow as in Vinyasa Yoga but with some modifications and the option to take all, or some of the class, from the chair. We find accessible ways to allow everyone to access poses and experience all of the great benefits that yoga offers.

Yoga this week continues to focus on some of the key elements of a yoga practice.
When people start yoga, they often come to increase their flexibility. But did you know that the flexibility is already there within your muscles? You just need to unlock it in the right way - gently and with curiosity. And did you also know that the key to flexible muscles is strong muscles?
So in class this week we will be taking a class with a focus on how to stretch well and find mobility within your body with lots of forward folds and stretches for the key powerhouse muscles. It's a fab class both for people who are really active and also for those who spend a lot of time sitting at a desk (I know I do 3 days a week!)
Learn where you should feel the sensation of stretch within each pose and explore how to create the right alignment within your body to do so.
I really look forward to seeing you in class this week!

“Slow breathing is the anchor in the midst of an emotional storm: the anchor won’t make the storm go away, but it will hold you steady until it passes.” Russ Harris
This week in yoga we have had a real focus on breath and breathing - on slowing it down and connecting to how our breath feels. We have tried using breath to calm as well as to energise.
We experienced how changing the movement and feel of our breath, changed the energy within the body and the mind. Within a Yoga practice this is called Pranayama.
We practised diaphragmatic and nasal breathing and used movement practices within our yoga class to optimise our breathing technique, drawing attention to the rib cage and finding mobility and space within the shoulders and upper back.
Breath is such an important tool that we all have in our pocket to influence how we feel physically and mentally. So often we are too busy to really stop and notice how our breathing pattern may be influencing our wellbeing. By consciously changing our breath, we communicate with our brain - influencing the release or suppression of hormones, the speeding or slowing of our heart rate and so much more, through the autonomic nervous system.
So I invite you today to spend some time noticing your breath and seeing how slowing your breath can change how you feel:
- try to send it downwards into the bases of your lungs, creating movement in your tummy,
- try gently closing your mouth and feel the air moving in and out at the nose
- slow the breath, you don’t need to breathe deeply, just try to slow the rate by lengthening the exhale just a little.
Effective breathing is a magic power!

After a lovely weekend spending time with friends and in the fresh air, it’s another busy week of yoga this week. We will be taking a class which focuses on one of the other key elements of yoga - breath.
This class will focus on noticing, and connecting with, our breath, finding space in our rib cage and upper back and linking breath with movement.
Our breath is a magical tool that we can use to connect our mind and body. Many factors, both physical and emotional, can cause changes in our breathing pattern. These changes, in turn, can impact on how we feel physically and emotionally.
Yoga is a fantastic way to explore this concept, and by deepening our understanding of our breath, we can bring calmness and softness into our body and mind.
This is one of my favourite subjects to explore within a yoga practice and I would love for you to join me!

Fancy yoga with me this week?
In classes this week we will be continuing our journey back to basics. We will be further exploring some more of the most common poses and movement flows used within a Vinyasa Yoga class.
Our focus this week will be on some lower limb strengthening poses, as well as developing our balance skills - combining strength and stability.
This is a lovely way for less experienced yoga students to few more familiar with some more yoga poses, or asanas. But it is also an opportunity for more experienced students to really bring more of a focus to their practice and to their bodies.
