I went into my daughter’s room last night and she was in the (I think) lotus position. I didn’t disturb her, I just waited, and after a while she told me she was just trying to relax before bed, so she can chill like yoga Bill! Looks like your yoga session you did with her had a positive effect β˜ΊοΈπŸ§˜πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ
Would just like to say a massive thank you. Received the books yesterday and read Morty to Chloe tonight. She loved his adventures, kept telling me how safe he was being. πŸ˜ƒ

School of Chill is a husband & wife team bringing together Art and Yoga for children and parents alike. We provide artworks, techniques and yoga practices to help children be healthy, calm and focused.

We are both qualified childrens' yoga instructors. This page is designed to give friends old and new a chance to keep tabs on the progress of the first Moo Adventure as the book's completion and publication nears. News on further Moo Adventures will appear shortly too.

Some days everything seems to be great, other days it feels like a total mess.

Then you receive a reminder that even if you think everything isn't always as perfect as it should be that you are having a positive effect on people.

A beautiful card from the year 5s at a local school that I have had the privilege of sharing yoga with over this turbulent school year.

Heart totally full. ❀️

So just remember even when you're having a terrible day and everything seems hopeless you are making a difference to somebody just by being here.

Keep your head up and keep being kind, always! πŸ€—

This week in kid's yoga we've been working on the theme "the art of relaxation"

At the start of each class I asked the children how they like to relax. Here are some of their answers:

The expected ones:

πŸ§˜β€β™‚οΈ Watching Tv
πŸ§˜β€β™‚οΈ Playing on xbox/switch/tablet
πŸ§˜β€β™‚οΈ Snuggling up to watch a movie
πŸ§˜β€β™‚οΈ Sleeping
πŸ§˜β€β™‚οΈ Trampolining/stretches

Some magical ones:

πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈ Dinner with grandparents
πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈ Singing
πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈ Listening to calm music
πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈ Laying on the grass
πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈ Standing barefoot in the rain

And the most unique:

πŸ§˜β€β™‚οΈ Placing a live snake around your neck and letting it slither to give you a neck massage!

Pesonally I love a soak in a hot bath or going on a nature walk.

How about you and your little people? Let us know in the comments......

This week is mental health awareness week and the theme is #ConnectWithNature

Now, I absolutely love being out in nature and I'm also passionate about looking after our mental health. Therefore this is a perfect cocktail for yoga classes this week.

We'll be looking at feelings/emotions and how we can use nature as a tool to help us feel connected, rooted and grounded to face any situation.

Trees, birdsong, the coast, weather, mountains and animals will feature to help us develop understanding, resilience and hope.

If you have a favourite place in nature I'd love you to pop a little note or photo in the comments below. I'll start....

Ad of the Day: Dove reverses selfie edits to highlight dangers of social media

This is a really poignant message for both boys and girls (and adults too!)

With so much social media and filtering of images it's so easy to get swept up in on thinking you are not good enough.

But actually you are perfect and whole just as you are! ❀️

Yes it's great to want to look after your body with healthy eating, exercise, proper sleep and products containing natural ingredients but you NEVER need to use a filter or wage war against your body.

As Roald Dahl said "A person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly. You can have a wonky nose and a crooked mouth and a double chin and stick-out teeth, but if you have good thoughts it will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.”

Look after those thoughts beautiful ones.

Hello there!

I'm Stacey and I run the children's yoga classes here at School of Chill.

I've been enjoining the holidays with my family, but next week I amlooling forward to getting back to teaching yoga in schools.

I'm also delighted to be restarting my afterschool kids club at the Yoga Shed in Wickham for the first time since October - starting one week today!

There's just a few spaces left for the half term at these covid secure sessions for children aged 5-11 years, so don't forget to book in very soon.

The themed classes run 4-5pm on Thursdays during termtime and include yoga based games and activities, breathing practices, guided relaxations, along with an afterschool drink/snack and use of an individual prop pack for each child to use at the sessions (including mindful colouring in, pom poms, scarves.....)

Any questions please ask. πŸ™‚

Don't forget we are returning to IN-PERSON children's yoga club on 22nd April at the stunning Yoga Shed in Wickham. Spaces are limited to maintain covid-secure policies.

Just two children's Zoom yoga classes left this half term (before we venture back to in-person classes afer Easter - more on that in a later post).

Today we are looking at how we can use the vast toolbox of yoga to help us with our wellbeing. We will explore a range of yoga poses, breath play, affirmations, movement meditation, music, self massage and guided relaxation/imagery and discuss bringing snippets of this into our daily life to restore balance and feel calm/grounded.

I'd love to see your little ones there and help them on their journey to noticing their feelings and learning to manage them.

Join us at 4.15pm today on Zoom to discover how. Booking link in comments......

Government teams up with TV's Dr Alex to discuss impact of the pandemic on young people’s mental health and wellbeing - Education in the media

This is a fantastic step in the right direction. ❀️

I have met with one school this week about how I can bring yoga to them to support the children with their physical, mental and emotional wellbeing; building resilience, regulating emotions, helping with focus /concentration and offering tools they can use during every day to reset and restore calmness.

I will also be expanding this to other local schools over the coming weeks.

If you are a parent at a school, please mention yoga to the teachers/head. If you work in a school and are interested to find out more about bringing yoga to your school please drop me a message.

I could talk about the wonders of yoga all day, so would love to chat about how it can support your child/ren.

Tomorrow is World Book Day and that is the theme for this week's children's yoga classes.

Books are amazing. Non fiction books can help us to learn new things, fiction can transport us to another world in our minds!

I'd love to hear about your children's favourite books in the comments below.

We will talk about this in kid's yoga club tomorrow, giving the children a chance to tell us all about their favourite books, before we head off down the rabbit hoke to explore the story of Alice in Wonderland through yoga.

It's not too late to sign your kids up for tomorrow. They can even come dressed as their favourite book character if they like.....

Making use of my new whiteboard this week with a busking style yoga class with the year 5s!

As there's only around 10-12 children in each class at the moment this style of lesson was a perfect way to round up the half term.

The children were asked to each think of a yoga pose or breath that would make them feel good in this moment. We then played the "shopping list" game using "I went to a yoga class and did....." each time we move round the circle the next person states all previous suggestions and adds their own.

As we played, I jotted the poses down (out of the kids view) and once they'd all added their's we looked at the list together to create a sequence using all of the components.

Lots of interaction, a test of the memory and some creative thought on how the elements of the class come together.

Great fun and some amazing choices. πŸ˜ƒ

The youngest child often struggles to get going in the morning and gets easily distracted by her toys when she should be doing her home learning.

Rather than push on and face the challenge /frayed tempers of forcing her to wake up and get on with it we called upon the yoga toolbox.

I asked her to pick a favourite lively song (she chose "can't stop the feeling" in case you were wondering) and she flowed through repeating sun salutations for the length of it.

After some focused movement for just 4 minutes she headed back to her work energised and happy.

Why not give it a try next time your little one (or you) feel sluggish and unmotivated? The power of yoga is vast.

Children's mental health week.

There's no denying that movement, in any form, is great for lifting the spirits.

We didn't have much time for our lunchtime walk today, so we made it into a moving workout with jogging, skipping, hopping, bunny hops, silly walking, star jumps and a few standing yoga poses to pause and breathe.

If focus is fading, tiredness creeping in early, or tensions rising then try getting some movement in and see how things change afterwards.

An excellent first day on a further children's yoga training with YogaBeez Children's Yoga learning all about the human body.

Here is the skeleton I made from my home made play dough.

I'd love to see what skeletons your children can create at home. Perhaps they could craft one out of play dough (recipe in comments if you'd like it) or simply sketch one out on paper.

What bones, muscles and joints can they name?

Share your children's sculptures, sketches and lists of body parts in the comments below.
