I’ve travelled to Reading today for TRX Pilates course. It feels like a cross between reformer and mat Pilates. I’m only halfway through it and my arms are already tired… it is challenging! But I will be bringing this back to Southampton and teaching this very soon at the Hazel Road Studio 💪💪

Joseph Pilates said, “Breathing is the first act of life and the last”…
Breath alone works for me but breathing coupled with movement works better.
When you link your breath to movement, several things happen:
Attention anchors in the body which means the movement gives the breath something to attach to. It’s harder to let the mind wander off.
The pattern becomes embodied so you’re not just breathing differently but you’re moving differently now and your whole system is involved in Pilates.
You can feel the muscles engaging and relaxing with each movement which makes the breathing more noticeable.
Rhythm then emerges naturally so your movements have a pace and your breath syncs to it.
So next time your Pilates or yoga teachers starts banging on about breathing try and match each breath to a movement and see how this improves your session.
