Here are some photos of our first phase of tee renovation. Stuart Rennie and team along with Rae, Kyle and several volunteers have put in the hours.

A big thank you to all the volunteers who have given their time and put in a tremendous amount of work lifting and laying turf.

Please where possible try to stay off newly laid turf.

We’re looking to have the 7 tees ready to play in the spring.

Ladies Round Up - Kathleen’s success at the Argo’s Open sends her on a Roll for the rest of the week!

Last Saturday 38 Ladies played in the 9th Argo’s Bakery Open with players treated to the same weather as most opens all summer, 🌦️ 💨 ☀️ but were hopefully cheered up by the selection of Food and Drinks available at the Half Way House! 🍕 🥧

Specials were at the 8th and 13th (Bakers Dozen)
and were won by Kathleen Sutherland, Shona Slater and Violet Ward. Violet was also 4th nett and it was lovely to have the ‘Hope Ladies’ back for the presentation. In 3rd nett was April Slater, 2nd Nett, Ann Oag and winning the Nett Cup was Lynn Slater 🏆

In the Gross, Shona Slater was 3rd (83), in 2nd Nicola Sutherland (82) and the winner was Kathleen Sutherland (79) 🏆

On Tuesday night the 2nd Round of the
LD Chipper was played which is a stableford - best single round out of 2.

11 ladies had played in the first round on Thursday 20th. Runner-up was Karen Thomson with 33 points but out in the lead with 38 points was Tina Smith. 21 ladies then played in the 2nd round on Tuesday and Scoring was pretty good. In 3rd place with 39 points was April, 2nd place with 41 points was Fenella and the winner, with 42 points, and winning the LD Chipper trophy, was Kathleen! 🥳

On Thursday 16 ladies played in the final round of the Harvey Cup which is the best 3 out of 4. In 3rd place on the night was Ida with 66 nett, 2nd place was Chessa with 65 nett, losing out on countback, to Kathleen also on 65 nett.

When the best 3 out of 4 scores were calculated the results were, 3rd place, Shona, on 203. 2nd place Karen Dunnett on 201 and winning the Harvey Cup with 199 was you guessed it, Kathleen! 🏆

This week see’s the final round of the Wilson Trophy played and over the next two weeks the finals of the Ladies Matchplay will be played, with the line up for the finals as follows -

DG Spence - Shona Slater & Lianne Sinclair v Ann Oag & Sylvia Rae

Helen Sinclair Trophy - Kathleen Sutherland v Tina Smith

Rosebowl - Karen Thomson v Jenna McDill

Work on the tees start tomorrow, Monday 24th August. There will be temporary tees in place for the week.

6am at Stromness Golf Club, there is a slight breeze blowing the flag, the deep hum of mowers can be heard as Rae and Kyle put the finishing touches to the course and the clubhouse is alight as Janette makes it ready for a busy day ahead. Along with greens staff volunteers George and Andrew these people deserve a mention on the morning of the last open of the season for their hard work out throughout the year! ☺️
