We've helped hundreds of young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) learn to cycle over the past two years. Here's a particularly lovely story of Nathan’s cycling journey:
🚲 **From being told he may never walk or talk… to cycling to school! 💙**
Nathan was born at just 26 weeks. A brain bleed caused brain damage, cerebral palsy and a spastic gait, and when he first tried a two-wheeled bike at the age of seven, it simply didn’t work.
Adapted trikes could have been an option but were prohibitively expensive to buy.
Last year Nathan's mum brought him and his sister to Moredon Sporting Hub to try cycling at a Limitless Swindon inclusive cycling session.
For the first time, he was able to experience the freedom of cycling on a recumbent trike. With regular visits alongside his family, Nathan’s confidence and skills grew. He progressed from the recumbent trike to a balance bike — and then achieved something truly amazing… **he learned to ride a two-wheeled bike!** 🎉
Today, Nathan cycles to school and wants to ride his bike every single day. 🚴♂️
His mum, Ros, says:
“This is a massive step to Nathan living an independent life. We are forever grateful for the life-changing support Moredon provided.”
Nathan’s journey shows that with the right support, environment and equipment sometimes what seemed impossible can be possible.
Here’s to Nathan — and the start of a lifetime of cycling adventures!
