HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO SMILEY 🎂

We’ve done some digging and can confirm that Martin “Smiley” Brown is actually several people stacked on top of each other wearing a Telford Flyers hoodie.

Because no normal person can simultaneously be:

* Chairman
* Head Coach
* Mechanic
* Track maintenance
* Event organiser
* Grass cutter
* And still somehow know exactly who left which water bottle

If you’ve ever asked:

“Smiley, have you got a…”

The answer is always yes.

Allen key? Yes.
Cable ties? Yes.
Spare tube? Yes.
Knowledge of the 2009 National Series? Also yes.

The only thing he doesn’t seem to have is an off switch.

Happy Birthday to the man who’s dedicated countless hours to Telford Flyers and still thinks “just one more gate” is a perfectly acceptable thing to say 20 minutes after training was supposed to finish.

We won a thing! What a day. Standing at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground, Telford Flyers BMX Club was honoured to win the Inspiring Future Leaders Award at the Sported Awards 2026.

Presented by Lisa Dodd-Mayne from Sport England, this award belongs to six incredible young people: Evelyn, Cody, Alfie, Elliot, Markku and Emily.

They welcome new riders, calm nerves on race days, support our coaches and show younger riders what being part of a club is all about.

At Telford Flyers, BMX is about far more than racing. It’s about creating a safe place where young people can build confidence, make friendships and know they belong.

We know we’re getting it right when the gates stop dropping and the kids still don’t want to go home. They stay to play, mess about with their mates and simply enjoy being part of something bigger than themselves, all made possible by the strong leadership of Martin "Smiley" Brown

Thank you to Sported Barclays UK and Sport England for recognising the power of grassroots sport. Special thanks to Sir Keith Mills and the entire Sported team for championing clubs like ours and helping young people thrive through sport.

The first round of the Telford Flyers Fast Friday Series rolls into the gate this Friday, and everyone’s welcome.

Whether you’re a seasoned racer looking for more gate practice, or you’ve never raced before and fancy giving it a go, Fast Fridays are the perfect way to spend a summer evening.

Flyers Blue on show in Gosport Day1 Lloyds BMX National Series

🏁 From Telford to Gosport 🏁

Another weekend, another bunch of Flyers loading up the vans and heading off racing.

This time it’s the National Series in Gosport, where some of our riders will be lining up against the best BMX racers in the country.

But here’s the thing…

Every one of those riders started in exactly the same place.

A first session.
A first gate.
A first race.

You don’t need to be the fastest rider to start BMX racing. You just need to have a go.

Whether your goal is racing Nationals, riding Regionals, or simply building confidence and having fun on a bike, there’s a place for you at Telford Flyers.

So while our riders are flying the flag in Gosport this weekend, why not think about where BMX could take your child?

£620 GIVEN BACK TO BMX RACING 💷

One of the things that makes BMX special is the people behind it.

At our Regional Race, thanks to the incredible generosity of local businesses, club families and supporters, we were able to add over £630 to the prize fund, creating our biggest prize giveaway yet.

Safe to say some riders went home very happy, with one happy bunny! (See what we did there 😂)

A special mention must go to Cody Hughes, one of our club’s youth mentors, who donated money he earned himself mowing lawns around his neighbourhood to sponsor the Under 6 category. A fantastic example of giving back to the sport and helping the next generation of riders enjoy the same opportunities.

The support from businesses and families like these helped us create our biggest ever prize fund, adding more than £620 of prizes to an already fantastic Regional race. Seeing riders leave with huge smiles, extra prizes and great memories is what BMX is all about.
