Finishing strong at East Lancashire Goalkeeping Academy 💪⚽️

A great end to our latest (Oct) block with one of our 4pm (FP) groups! Wrapping up with low parries, focusing on driving the lead hand to deflect the ball away from the central area.

Brilliant focus and application throughout. Keep raising the bar in the next block of training! 🚀⚽️

Small details matter. 🧤⚡️

We always aim to finish our sessions at high intensity once the core teaching points are covered.

At the end of last night’s session, Kyon made a low save into the bottom corner. While he got a strong hand to it, the initial parry spilled back into the central area, a prime zone where a centre-forward would punish a mistake.

Kyon reacted instantly to recover, get back to his feet, and spread to save the rebound. Instinct, recovery, and bravery!!

Everything we want to see from our young keepers! 🔥🧤

Now that the wintery weather is officially here, it brings back some not-so-fond memories for Gaffers, Kersh, and Crossy.

It really is a completely different world now compared to those bone-chilling 1980s and '90s winter afternoons!

Back then, youth football pitches turned into bottomless peat bogs. Kersh and Crossy, along with all the young goalkeepers slogging it out back in the day, were guaranteed to be carrying an extra stone of liquid mud in their boots, soaked to the skin in soggy woollen kits, and taking heavy, waterlogged balls to the face. By the 90th minute, you couldn't tell the home team from the away team, let alone read the shirt numbers!

How times have changed for the better for our young goalkeepers! From quality gloves, boots, skins, and waterproof kit to all-weather 4G pitches, modern floodlit facilities, and player welfare at the forefront, gone are the days of freezing in mudbaths. It’s now all about safety and development. Long may it continue! 👌⚽️

Kersh and Crossy still get a cold shiver down their spines whenever the heavy rain starts falling. 😨

What a way to start the week! ⚽️🌟

We have some amazing news to share about Elijah!

Last week, Elijah kicked off a trial period with Bradford City AFC U9s. Yesterday, he had the incredible experience of playing against Manchester United in a fantastic battle against a Category 1 Academy! It was an extremely close game right up until the final whistle, with his side narrowly missing out by just a single goal. What a brilliant performance from our young goalkeeper! 🧤

We can’t speak highly enough of Elijah’s attitude. His appetite for learning, infectious energy, and work rate constantly set the standard for his group in training.
Coming back from a serious injury and a tough knock to his confidence wasn't easy, but he pushed himself to earn this opportunity.

Everyone at East Lancashire Goalkeeping Academy is immensely proud of him 💛

A huge well done, Elijah! Keep shining! 👏🔥

🧤 Race — Trawden Celtic

Eliza produced some excellent saves and showed good distribution throughout. Another solid performance between the sticks! 👏

Stanley again! Two weeks running! 🔥

After picking up Player of the Match last weekend, Stanley was at it again for his Sunday team!

Another Player of the Match award after pulling off some amazing saves in a closely contested game, helping his team secure the win! 👏🧤

🧤 Harrison — Fulledge Colts

Despite Fulledge not getting the result in Saturday’s cup match, Harrison produced a brilliant performance and was awarded Player of the Match by the opposition coach.

Praised for his variety of saves, the opposition coach couldn’t believe this was only Harrison’s first full season as a goalkeeper!

Great to hear he stayed vocal, kept his head up and came off the pitch smiling… and hungry! A well-earned sausage butty to celebrate! 😂👏

🧤 Aneira — U9 Boys & Girls

Two games, two Player of the Match awards! 🏆🏆

A fantastic weekend for Aneira, picking up Opposition Player of the Match with her U9 boys’ team on Saturday.

She followed that up on Sunday with another outstanding performance for her U9 girls’ team, competing in the U10 league. Despite the defeat, she made some incredible saves, including a double save and even a triple save, earning another Player of the Match award!

To top it off, the opposition coach, a former professional GK coach, personally praised Aneira’s performance and goalkeeping skills. Brilliant recognition! 👏🔥

Crossy & Kersh

12/10/2026

🧤⚽ Always good to see our ELGA keepers in action!

One of the best parts of being involved with ELGA is bumping into some familiar faces whilst I’m out and about watching games with my so .

Last week it was Isaiah and Dougie, and this week Stanley and Jensen in the glorious Trawden Rec ‘sunshine’ 👀🤥👏

It’s great to catch up with both current and former ELGA keepers, but even better getting to watch them in action and see for myself how they’re putting what we’ve worked on in training into practice on matchdays!

Plenty of skills on show, some cracking goalkeeping and, most importantly, seeing them enjoying their football! 🧤💪

It’s one thing working with them on a Monday evening, but seeing it all come together in a match is what makes coaching so rewarding!

Keep up the hard work, lads! 👏⚽

Crossy 🧤

09/10/2026

🧤 Charlie Cross — Trawden Celtic Football Club U10 Blacks

A standout first-half performance in goal from Crossy Jnr, showing plenty of agility and getting down well to saves — something that apparently gets a little harder with age! 😂

Despite his team not getting the win, Charlie showed a real variety of goalkeeping skills, including an excellent penalty save. Quick off his line when needed too, with no complaints from the knees afterwards.

He swapped the gloves for an outfield role in the second half and was equally solid in defence, covering plenty of ground and still looking fresh at the final whistle.

Good performance, Charlie — the Crossy name might have a few years left in it yet! 🧤👏

🧤 Charlie — Fulledge Colts U8 Reds

Charlie bagged himself Player of the Match this week after an absolute standout performance throughout the whole game. He made some outstanding saves and looked sharp and confident with everything that came his way. A brilliant performance from start to finish. 👏🧤

🧤 Stanley — Fulledge Colts U9 Oranges

Stanley picked up Player of the Match after showing loads of resilience in a really tough game. He kept going throughout, making plenty of saves and putting in a performance he can be really proud of. 💪🧤

🧤 Samuel Harrison — Clitheroe Wolves

After recovering from illness last weekend, Samuel bounced back with another excellent performance for Clitheroe Wolves.

Despite the result not going their way, he made some amazing saves to keep his team in the game and was unanimously voted Parents’ Player of the Match. His performance also earned praise from an opposition player and coach after the game. 👏🧤

04/10/2026

🧤 ELGA GK Update 🧤

Another brilliant week of goalkeeper performances from our ELGA keepers! 👏🧤

🧤 Dolly - U13 Greens

Another fantastic performance from Dolly, earning Player of the Match as Greens secured a 3–2 win over Ribchester Juniors.

She produced some superb saves, including a brilliant double save from close range and an outstanding stop from a shot heading towards the top corner.

Her confidence continues to grow, along with her kicking, decision-making and overall presence in goal. 💪🧤

🧤 Elijah — Pro Elite U9s

A brilliant weekend for Elijah as he helped Pro Elite U9s secure their first win of the season, with an impressive 7–1 victory over Halifax Girls U10s. 👏⚽️

The day got even better as Elijah then headed to Valley Parade with his IDLE teammates, where they got to wave the flags for Bradford City against Mansfield and meet some of the team. A day to remember! 🙌

🧤 Jack Dakin — Whalley Juniors Football Club

Another ELGA keeper receiving recognition this week, with Jack being awarded Player of the Match for Whalley Juniors. 👏🔥

A fantastic achievement and another great example of our keepers taking what they’re learning into their grassroots football. Well done, Jack! 🧤

🧤 Isaiah — Brierfield Celtic FC Warriors

A brilliant performance from Isaiah, who was named Opposition Player of the Match. 👏🧤

His performance was described as “absolutely on point”, with some amazing saves and a fantastic attitude throughout — never giving up and continuing to battle right until the end. 💪🔥

👏 Well done to Dolly, Elijah, Jack and Isaiah — another fantastic week representing ELGA out on the pitch! 🖤💛🧤
