Today we're de-bunking some common myths about Pilates! If you've been unsure about starting classes with us, these are some of the most common concerns we hear, and the truth behind the myths!
1️⃣ Pilates is for the young and fit.
We often hear people say they're too old to start Pilates. It's not true! Pilates is adaptable and can benefit people of all ages and fitness levels. Pilates improves balance, flexibility, and core strength which are crucial for healthy aging. We have amazing individuals aged 80+ attending our classes.
2️⃣Pilates is for women.
Pilates was originally developed by Joseph Pilates (a man!) and used to rehabilitate soldiers during World War I. Pilates benefits include improved flexibility, muscle strength, and balanced muscular development, which are essential for all, regardless of gender. We welcome everyone and plenty of chaps attend our classes.
3️⃣Pilates is for people with flexible bodies.
Flexibility is a benefit of Pilates, not a requirement. We know that social media often shows the largest range of movement, but we know that not every body can do that! Pilates exercises are designed to improve flexibility, enhance your range of motion and reduce stiffness over time.
