The 40–50 yard bunker shot… arguably the hardest bunker shot in golf 😬

Too much and you blade it over the green. Too little and you dump it straight into the lip.

Don’t always reach for the sand wedge. Here I’m using a lower lofted wedge to help cover the extra distance without having to force it.

One of those shots where club choice can make a huge difference.

This October I’m launching something I’ve wanted to build for a while.

The Coaching Club isn’t only about having regular lessons. I want to build a community of golfers who want to improve, practise more and enjoy their golf, with Coaching Club meet-ups and social golf events along the way.

Most importantly, your coaching shouldn’t stop when your lesson ends.

As a Coaching Club member, you’ll get:

🎁 FREE tripod + alignment sticks when you join to help you practise and send your swings between sessions.

HIT IT HARD… STOP QUICK 🛑

This is a great drill for learning to create speed where it actually matters, through the ball.

Hit the shot with intent, then try to stop the club as quickly as possible after impact.

⚡ More speed at impact
🎯 Better clubface control
🏌️ More consistent strikes

Give it a go next time you’re practising and see how your strike feels.

If Tiger Woods had to call out his own olé swing, the rest of us are in good company. But knowing you have it and fixing it are two different things.

The olé swing happens when the body spins out too early and the arms trail behind, leaving you with no chance of a solid strike.

Here’s how to sort it:

✅ Alignment stick through your belt loops - this gives you instant feedback when your hips fire too early before the arms have moved into position.
✅ From the top, let the arms work back in front first - this restores the correct sequence so the body rotation actually has something to deliver.
✅ Then rotate through - with the arms in front, your body can drive through the ball instead of spinning past it.

One drill. Proper sequencing. No more getting stuck.

When you’re standing on a tight tee with trouble either side, start direction becomes even more important.

If you want to hit more fairways, you need to understand where your ball is starting and why.

Your clubface at impact has the biggest influence on that initial start direction. Get more control of the face and suddenly those gaps start to look a little wider 👀🌳

Next time you practise, don’t only focus on whether the ball finishes on target. Pay attention to where it starts.

Better start direction = more control off the tee = more fairways hit.

⛳️ Comment ‘MY SWING’ for a FREE swing analysis 📲

Don’t be afraid to open the clubface in the bunker!

Opening the face gives you more loft and helps you use the bounce properly, making it much easier to get the ball up and out of the sand.

The key is knowing how to open it correctly and then committing to the shot.

Next time you’re in the bunker, open that face and trust it! 👊
