A glimpse into the past of mines rescue. ⛏️

Today marks the 15th anniversary of the Gleision Colliery Disaster, when four miners tragically lost their lives.

The events of that day remain deeply etched in the memories of those who responded, those who worked alongside the men, their families and friends, and communities across South Wales.

In the immediate aftermath, the Mines Rescue Service team at our MRS Training & Rescue centre in the Rhondda Valley responded with courage, professionalism and dedication. Their expertise was vital during an incredibly difficult and dangerous emergency, reflecting the commitment of those who stand ready to protect and save lives when disaster strikes.

Following the disaster, the then Prince Charles visited our centre, meeting members of the rescue team and recognising their efforts.

Fifteen years later, our centre continues its vital role - supporting emergency response while providing specialist training and support to help keep people working in hazardous industries safe.

Today, however, our thoughts are first and foremost with those who lost their lives. We remember them, their families, their friends and their colleagues.

Our 2-day City & Guilds 6160-09 Level 2 Award in Entrant and Entry Controller for Confined Spaces (Medium Risk) course is designed for people working in medium-risk confined space environments.
