🪄 Marauder’s Miles Challenge – Week 1 Update!
We’ve officially completed the first week of the Watford Wizards Marauder’s Miles Challenge!
For the month of August, our players, supporters and friends are taking on the challenge of travelling 1 metre for every word in the Harry Potter series — that’s a huge 1,084,170 metres (674 miles) in total!
We’ve now updated the website with everyone’s Week 1 totals, so you can see how our participants are getting on and follow their progress throughout the challenge.
A huge well done to everyone who has taken part so far. Whether you’ve been walking, running, cycling or getting your miles in on an indoor bike, every metre counts!
And this is only the beginning — we’ve got plenty more magical miles to go! ⚡
If you’d like to support Watford Goalball Club and help us reach our target, donations are also very welcome.

Watford Wizards launch the Marauder’s Miles Challenge to raise funds for Watford Goalball Club
This August, players and supporters from Watford Goalball Club are taking on our biggest fundraising challenge yet — the Marauder’s Miles Challenge, inspired by the Harry Potter series.
The challenge will see us complete one metre for every word across all seven Harry Potter books, totalling approximately 1,084,170 metres (1,084 km / 674 miles) through walking, running, cycling and swimming across the month of August.
Our aim is to raise vital funds to support Watford Goalball Club and help us continue providing opportunities for people with visual impairments to take part in this amazing sport.
Goalball is a Paralympic sport designed specifically for visually impaired athletes. Played by teams of three, the game relies on sound, communication and teamwork, with all players wearing eyeshades to ensure a level playing field.
For many of our players, Goalball is about much more than sport. It provides confidence, friendships, independence and a supportive community.
Funds raised from the Marauder’s Miles Challenge will support:
• Specialist Goalball equipment and replacement kit
• Sports hall hire and training costs
• Development opportunities for players
• The continued growth of the club
Throughout August, we’ll be sharing updates and tracking our progress as we make our journey through the wizarding world towards Hogwarts.
We’d love for you to follow our challenge, share our journey and support us if you can.

Proud to be recognised 🔵💙
It is fantastic to see goalball highlighted in the new Department for Education (DfE) enrichment framework for schools and colleges.
As we continue to drive inclusive opportunities for young people across the country, having our sport acknowledged at a national policy level highlights the vital role goalball plays in school enrichment programmes. We are ready and waiting to support schools looking to diversify their PE and extracurricular offer.
You can view our resources and support for schools, including with our partners PE Office for secondary schools, here 👉 goalballuk.com/school/

Thank you to our Chelmsford Goalball Club members who worked tirelessly to plan, organise, and deliver the tournament. We are also hugely grateful to the many volunteers who supported throughout the day, whether refereeing, goal-line judging, assisting at the scoring table, or supporting players and teams.
We would also like to thank Riverside Leisure Centre for their support in facilitating the event, and Goalball UK for their advice and guidance during the planning process.
Thank you to The Primary Club for their continued support of Chelmsford Goalball Club, which helped make this tournament possible. We would also like to express our gratitude to our friends at Cambridge Dons Goalball Club for kindly lending us their game clock for the day—it was greatly appreciated.
