RESULTS - The 1st XI produced an excellent all-round performance to secure a convincing six-wicket victory over Thornton-le-Moor. Asked to field first after losing the toss, we battled hard as Thornton-le-Moor posted 248-9 from their 45 overs. The bowling attack kept chipping away throughout the innings, with George leading the way with an excellent 4-53. Sam also impressed, claiming 3-40, while Pete and Henry took a wicket apiece. Despite some late resistance, on a wicket that was only getting better, we thought we had restricted to the visitors to a chaseable total. In reply, our top order made light work of the target. James and Jack set the tone with a superb 85 and 76 with a rapid 169 first wicket partnership. James M added a run a ball 26 to keep the scoreboard moving. With the job almost complete, George finished the chase in style, unbeaten on 42 from just 43 balls, supported. We reached our total in just 40.3 overs, completing a deserved six-wicket victory and an impressive team performance.

The 2nd XI suffered a 32-run defeat against Burton Leonard CC, despite an excellent effort with the ball after winning the toss and electing to field. Burton Leonard made 100-6 from their 40 overs, with our bowlers keeping the scoring under control throughout. Harrison was the pick of the attack, claiming an impressive 3-10 from eight overs, while Katie (1-3), Barney (1-10) and George (1-15) also picked up wickets. We conceded just 14 runs through fielding extras as the hosts were restricted to a modest total. Chasing 101, unfortunately we struggled to build partnerships and lost regular wickets. Richard provided the some resistance, remaining unbeaten on 15 from 41 balls, however we were eventually bowled out for 68 in 26 overs.

Not bad for a first season of cricket. We finished fourth in the table today bringing our season to an end.
We played Whitby first, who bowled painfully fast, (we have bruises with seam marks to prove it!) We didn’t win this game.
After a deluge of rain, a cup of tea, some more rain and some snacks, we finally went back out to play more games. Overs were reduced to 8 per innings and we armed ourselves with sawdust as the ground was now very muddy. We took on Sheriff Hutton Bridge, who we beat by 34 runs.
Fellow Nidderdale team, Studley were up next, who, with some tight fielding we kept to 234/3, but we struggled to find the runs to catch Studley this time, so another loss for Whixley.
Our last game was against Great Ayton, who like Whitby, were very good at cricket, they won, but only beat us by 21 runs.

For our first season, we’re proud of how far we’ve come. Perhaps next year, we’ll go further, we might even get some matching kit. 🤣

RESULTS - The 1st XI suffered a narrow four-wicket defeat against Newton-le-Willows CC, Yorkshire, in a contest that went down to the wire. Batting first, we posted an imposing 248 all out from 44.2 overs. Sam T led the way with an excellent 84 from 72 balls, striking nine fours and six sixes, while Jack provided strong support with a well-made 62. James and Sam W added 15 each, but regular wickets prevented Whixley from pushing the total towards 300. With the ball, Sam W was the pick of the attack, producing an excellent spell of 3-44 from 10 overs. Toby also claimed two wickets, while Pete took one. Newton-Le-Willows made a strong start to the chase and despite Whixley continuing to take wickets, the hosts eventually reached 250-6 in 39.4 overs to secure victory by four wickets.

The 2XI secured an impressive four-wicket victory over Ben Rhydding CC in a closely fought contest. Having won the toss and elected to field, Whixley made an excellent start with the ball, keeping the Ben Rhydding batters under pressure throughout. Katie, Barney and James H all picked up wickets, while Oliver McGill produced a superb spell of 5.1 overs, conceding just 2 runs and taking 3 wickets. Lorcan and Will H also chipped in with wickets as Ben Rhydding were bowled out for 130 in 37.1 overs. Chasing 131 for victory, Whixley made steady progress. Charles led the way with a composed 36, supported by Lorcan with 23 and Richard with a valuable 17. Will H added 13 before departing, while Oliver remained unbeaten on 16 to see the chase through. We reached 134-6 in 27.3 overs to complete a well-deserved four-wicket win. A strong all-round performance, with disciplined bowling and important contributions throughout the batting order, ensured another valuable victory.

RESULTS - The 1st XI fell to an 18-run defeat against Embsay CC. Having won the toss and elected to field, we made a strong start with the ball and kept Embsay under pressure early on. However, the hosts recovered well through a number of useful partnerships and finished their 45 overs on 243-4. We continued to fight throughout the innings, but Embsay’s batters managed to build a total that would prove just beyond reach. In reply, we got off to a solid start and produced several excellent contributions with the bat. Jack W led the way with a composed 71, while Sam T added an impressive 50. Toby (23), Lorcan (24) and Sam W (18) also made contributions as we kept ourselves in the chase. Despite wickets falling at regular intervals, the lower order continued to battle and pushed the game deep into the second innings. In the end, we were bowled out for 225 in 44.2 overs, finishing just 18 runs short of victory.

The 2nd XI produced an excellent run chase to secure a convincing victory over Ripley CC, successfully chasing down 211 to win by six wickets. After being asked to field, our bowlers worked hard to restrict Ripley to 210 all out. Katie led the attack with an excellent 2-26 from her eight overs, while Harrison and James also chipped in with a wicket each. George was the pick of the attack, taking an impressive 4-60, with Martin also claiming a wicket. In reply, we made a steady start before Charles contributed a valuable 32 from 48 balls. Will then accelerated the chase with an excellent 59 from just 49 balls, including six fours and a six. James added a useful 16. The star of the chase was Harrison, who produced a superb unbeaten 79 from 77 balls, striking 11 fours to guide us over the line.
