Our UK reopening is just around the corner, with students under 18 able to return first, followed soon after by adult students.

We're working hard to secure re-opening dates for each of our training venues, and hope that the majority should be ready to go by the start dates scheduled by the government.

You can read a breakdown of our re-opening dates and conditions here: www.gkrkarate.com/articles/uk-class-reopening/

Hi to all GKR Karate UK students – we’ve prepared a special home-training project for you while we’re unable to train in the dojo. Keep your body and mind strong by joining us for the GKR Karate 21 Day Karate Challenge!

Over the next 3 weeks starting from this Monday 8th February, we’ll be setting you 3 different week-long assignments. Each one is designed to keep your key karate muscles active during lockdown.

Please note that you don’t have to complete these weekly tasks in one day – in fact in the comments below you will find a '21 Day Challenge Progress Tracker' for you to print out and fill in each day as you go.

Remember – a little bit of something is better than a lot of nothing, so aim to do a bit each day towards the target and you’ll be over the finish line by the end of the week!

Let us know how you’re going along the way via our page and we’ll be issuing certificates at the end of the 21 days to those who completed the challenge.

See you at the starting line this coming Monday!!! 😊

Shihan Gavin Samin

It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of a dear member from our GKR Karate family in New Zealand.

Sensei Ann Eyes lost her fight with cancer on Wednesday just gone and our thoughts and sympathies are with her family, including husband Les, at this difficult time.

Ann has been a much-loved student and instructor in GKR Karate Region 21 Wellington, New Zealand for almost 2 decades, and recently her many years of training culminated in being awarded 4th Dan Black Belt at a special ceremony conducted by Sensei Antonie de Bruin. Since border closures between countries prevented either myself or Kancho from being there in person on the day, we were thankfully both able to call Ann to personally congratulate her just after the ceremony.

The fact that Ann was 76 years of age when she received this grade is testament to her tenacity, commitment and devotion to training.

Ann was the closest thing we had to ‘GKR Royalty’ in New Zealand, and she travelled to many of our international karate events over the years. As such, she was also well-known by students in both Australia and the UK, and will be greatly missed by all.

Rest in peace Sensei Ann. 🙏
