I was just going through some of the many hundreds of photos that I have from my in-person trainings over the years for a document that I am putting together, and felt totally inspired to do a big ol' photo dump of some of the beautiful images in my vaults 💕 Am feeling so blessed that I have connected with so many amazing yoginis over the years, and continue to connect both in-person and online with many more inspirational women! I literally have the BEST Job! 😁 If you are scrolling through and recognise yourself, drop a comment below and let me know what you're up to right now! 🙏

With the practice of yoga now so focused on the physical aspects of asana, it can be easy to neglect why we are on the mat in the first place. Ironically, this can especially be the case for those running a business involving yoga. Like any business there are non-fun things that need to be done, and sometimes in the thick of it all, even the practice of yoga asana and pranayama can go astray. However, I do feel that we can almost always make to conscious choice to live within some aspect of the system of the eight limbs of yoga, and practice the yama’s and niyama’s daily, at least a little bit 😊
For me, the most pertinent yogic observation is ahimsa (non-violence to oneself and others) and as teachers and practitioners of yoga, one that we would do well to observe where possible. Of course, all eight limbs are important and work together with one observation supporting the next, but the practice of the yama, ahimsa, really can be very simple.
Ahimsa is one of the five yamas, so it sits right at the very foundation of the eight limbs of yoga. As the first yama, it’s considered the starting point for the entire path — the ethical ground from which all other practices grow. When you teach or practise yoga, ahimsa becomes the guiding intention behind every limb; it’s the ethical compass that keeps the whole system aligned.
And this practice doesn’t have to heavy duty or over complicated; it can simply be how we treat our environment, how we speak to ourselves, how kind we are to others (but remember your boundaries – a tricky one I know!), how much we consume, what organisations we support, the list goes on. And we really do not have to harm ourselves by trying to do it all perfectly all the time either, because as the practice of yoga asana shows us, little and often goes a long way.
