Discipline • Awareness • Trust

Sadhana is not just doing asana every morning.

In the Yoga Sutras, Patanjali describes three practices that together form Kriya Yoga — the yoga of action and transformation:

Tapas
The inner fire.

Not just physical heat, but the discipline that burns through laziness, old habits, resistance, and unconscious patterns.

As practitioners and teachers, Tapas means showing up for the practice because transformation requires commitment.

Svadhyaya
Self-study.

Not simply reading the scriptures, but learning to observe yourself:

Your body.
Your breath.
Your emotions.
Your reactions.
Your patterns.

Without Svadhyaya, practice can become mechanical.
With it, every practice becomes a mirror.

Ishvara Pranidhana
Surrender.

Letting go of the need to control the outcome.
Releasing the ego and placing your effort, your practice, and its fruits in the hands of something greater.

Practice sincerely.
Let go of perfection.
Stop forcing results.
Trust the process.

Sadhana is:

Discipline through Tapas.
Awareness through Svadhyaya.
Surrender through Ishvara Pranidhana.

This is how yoga becomes a path of transformation.

Not just movement.
Not just flexibility.
Not just fitness.

I encourage my students to practice at around 85–90% of their capacity, rather than constantly reaching for 100%.

Because your body usually tells you before something goes wrong.

A little soreness.
A sense of fatigue.

These are signals.

If we ignore them and keep pushing because we believe we have to “push through the pain,” the body often gets louder.

And if we continue to ignore it, we may eventually get injured.

We live in a culture that teaches us that progress comes from pushing harder and going beyond our limits.

But yoga asks for something different.

The goal is not to give everything you have today.

The goal is to practice in a way that makes you want to practice again tomorrow.

Find your edge.
Stay with your breath.
Give yourself space.

And notice what happens.

Sometimes, when we stop forcing depth, the body begins to open naturally.

Keep the momentum.
Don’t sacrifice the journey for today’s achievement.

So listen.
Breathe.
Let the practice unfold.

Make your practice something your body will want to come back to for the rest of your life.

Enjoy your practice.
And feel good.

Are advanced postures the goal of yoga?

For some, they’re not even necessary
But for those who choose to explore them
their value isn’t in the shape itself

An arm balance
an inversion
or a deep backbend can become a mirror

The posture is simply the invitation
The practice is how we meet ourselves within it

Yoga isn’t measured by what the body can do
Rather by the quality of awareness we bring
whether we’re sitting in meditation
holding child’s pose
or learning to balance on our hands

The pose is optional
The awareness is the practice

What do you learn through your practice?
